We continue collaboration with frontline heroes. Last week we were honoured to welcome Michelle de la Calzada, Centre Head Nurse at the Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre in Cebu in the Philippines, a centre Mölnlycke helped establish through our long-standing partnership with Operation Smile Sweden. Michelle was visiting Sahlgrenska University Hospital for an externship. Through our global community support programme, the team restores smiles and futures for children with cleft conditions — while gaining insights that help us advance towards sustainable healthcare. Dr. Ellinor Wisén from Sahlgrenska and Maya Jakobsson of Operation Smile Sweden joined Michelle in leading a panel, reinforcing a key truth: that sustainable healthcare requires local insights, strong partnerships, and long-term commitment. It’s World Antimicrobial Awareness Week – and the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) starts with prevention. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the top global public health and development threats. Every year, more than 1.4 million people worldwide suffer from healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)¹, costing Europe €7 billion annually and causing unnecessary patient suffering. It is estimated that bacterial AMR was directly responsible for 1.27 million global deaths in 2019 and contributed to 4.95 million deaths².
