We’re proud to see BBSRC-supported partners taking meaningful steps to strengthen visibility, recognition and career development for technicians across the R&I system. Congratulations to everyone involved in advancing this work.
We're thrilled to announce that the Royal Microscopical Society and BioImagingUK have been awarded the Technician Commitment Award of Impact at yesterday's Signatory event in London. Our Project Officer Georgina Fletcher collected the award from Helen Pain MBE CChem FRSC and met with Dr Kelly Vere MBE, Director of the Technician Commitment to receive this recognition. This award celebrates our work advancing the four core themes of the Technician Commitment: Visibility, Recognition, Career Development, and Sustainability. We're incredibly proud of what has been achieved across the imaging technician community. Some highlights from last three years: ✈️ Around 85 travel grants to support technicians attending conferences and professional events 📚 Approximately 60 technical training subsidies for continuing professional development 📝 Published a Core Facilities Publication Policy and a Poster with Guidelines to promote fair authorship and acknowledgement of technicians 🔬 Engaged over 84,000 school-age pupils through outreach programmes 🏫 94 secondary schools now participating in our table-top scanning electron microscope project The review panel particularly highlighted our sector-leading work in recognition and sustainability, noting that 17 of our action plan items are rated green with none rated red. The feedback praised the "phenomenal outreach work" and the "exceptional support to technicians" provided through our programmes. Thank you to the whole RMS team and contributors: Sali Davis Maddy Parsons Peter O'Toole Alex Sossick Owen Morton Jess Cole Jade Sturdy Debbie Hunt Kate Wooding Lucy Ridler Alex Ball Alessandra R. Katie Reynolds Nick Cameron Adam Clay Victoria Masters Jill Hobbs This achievement belongs to the entire imaging community - our dedicated technicians, the facilities who participate in our programmes, and everyone who has contributed to embedding these principles into the work of RMS and BioImagingUK. Thank you to the Technician Commitment team for this recognition, and here's to continuing this vital work to support the technical community through to 2028 and beyond. Simon Breeden Carly Dellar
