🌍 "Protecting our planet benefits both animals and humans." – Dr Lizzie Barker, Technical Marketing Expert at Dechra. This One Health Day, we asked Dechra’s Dr. Lizzie Barker MRCVS MBBCh to share insights into the Veterinary Green Theatre Checklist (VGTC) – a pioneering initiative she developed in collaboration with an independent expert working group. The VGTC is a sustainable One Health initiative inspired by human medicine and adapted for veterinary professionals to promote greener perioperative practices. The checklist has already gained global traction since its September launch, with over 1,400 professionals accessing it. By providing summaries of practical sustainability literature and encouraging Quality Improvement (QI) projects, the checklist aims to help veterinary teams measure and reduce their environmental impact. 🩺🌱 “The VGTC is a milestone in advancing One Health principles. 🌍💚 Exciting news in veterinary sustainability! We're proud to support the launch of the Veterinary Green Theatre Checklist (VGTC) at the World Congress of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (WCVAA) 2025 in Paris. Adapted from the Intercollegiate Green Theatre Checklist used in human medicine, the VGTC is the first of its kind for veterinary practise, bringing together equine and companion animal perioperative guidelines in one easy-to-use, evidence-based tool. Led by the AVA, independently created by a cross-specialism global group, and proudly supported by Dechra the VGTC has already received endorsements from leading veterinary organisations. As Dr. Lizzie Barker, Technical Marketing Expert at Dechra and the visionary behind the project, explains: “The VGTC is a milestone in advancing OneHealth principles and sustainability in veterinary care. By uniting our profession under a common set of green perioperative practices, we can make a tangible difference for both animal and environmental health.” A training and awareness campaign will be rolled out within the veterinary sector, following the launch. 🐕 Happy International Dog Day! 🐾 This International Dog Day, Dechra is celebrating the special bond between humans and dogs. We’re proud to play a role in advancing global animal health and welfare at Dechra. Today, we’re celebrating some of the heartwarming “tails” shared by our colleagues around the world—stories that remind us dogs aren’t just pets, they’re family. From rescue stories that defy the odds to canine heroes who comfort, guide, and even save lives – let’s honour those hounds 🫡! 📷Some Dechra Dogs highlights: 🐶 Blake the ex-racing Greyhound has donated blood seven times — saving up to 28 other dogs. He’s an ambassador for Pet Blood Bank UK at Crufts and other events. 🐶 Husky Aero, an official AKC Canine Good Citizen, volunteers as a therapy dog at hospitals, nursing homes, and community events — spreading joy and tail wags wherever he goes! 🐶 Koda, a Husky-Shepherd mix, was discovered abandoned in a car park. Despite Koda being a troublesome puppy after being rescued, he’s now a reading therapy dog for children. 🐶 Fiona, a bull-breed, saved from euthanasia as a newborn, now lives life to the fullest despite her disability. #InternationalDogDay #Dechra #TheVeterinaryPerspective #RescueDogs #PetLove #AnimalWelfare #DogsOfLinkedIn
