We celebrated a topping out at our landmark site in south London last week, with construction partner McLaren Construction Group. Pearl Yard Bermondsey's Block F has reached structural completion, marking another milestone for the 1,600 home project. Speaking at the event, Senior Director, Construction, Kevin McHugh. said: "This is a generational piece of real estate, steeped in history. McLaren understood the importance of breathing new life into this block, that was once the Peek Freans packing factory. We've delivered the first homes of Pearl Yard Bermondsey, a landmark 1,600-home project in South London. The development has risen in just three years, since Greystar acquired the long-dormant brownfield site formerly known as The Biscuit Factory. Cllr Helen Dennis, Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development said: “We are delighted that by working in partnership with Greystar, 1,600 new homes are being built in the heart of Bermondsey at an incredible pace. This includes providing over 400 affordable homes as a priority for local residents in the greatest need, meeting our 35% target for affordable housing, which includes 25% of properties being social rent. Pearl Yard, our 1600-home site in Bermondsey, South London has been featured in City AM today: Named after “The Pearl”, the first biscuit baked on the original Peek Freans factory site, the new neighbourhood is set to create 1,600 new rental homes when it is fully completed in 2027. Dan Thompson, managing director of UK development at Greystar, said the site was an “extraordinary milestone”. "Transforming land that has been empty for decades in just three years reflects the strength of our partnership with Southwark Council [and] the dedication of our delivery partners”, he added. In line with government targets, 35 per cent of the development will be affordable. The site will also deliver a new secondary school, affordable workspace and a public realm, in line with Southwark council’s policy ambitions. Comprising over 1,200 beds across three assets located in Barcelona, Seville and Pamplona, the residences will operate under our pan-European student brand Canvas. The Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, toured our Student Roost site in Birmingham this week. Development Managing Director, Dan Thompson and Construction Director, Joel Lewis, joined the tour alongside Dan O'Malley, Kimberley McGinty, Raymond Campbell and Kathleen Caines from our construction partner McAleer & Rushe.
