🚨 New On point paper: How to avoid an ‘Omnishambles’ Budget 🚨 As the Chancellor searches for new revenue, pension tax relief is often seen as “low-hanging fruit”. Our experts Steve Webb, Tim Camfield and Alasdair Mayes warn that cutting relief could carry major political and economic risks, echoing the 2012 “Omnishambles” Budget. They look at the areas often seen as potential Treasury savings, including: 🔹Removing the higher rates of tax relief available to those paying above the basic rate 🔹Capping or scrapping the ability to take 25% of a pension as a tax-free lump sum Key findings highlight that public sector workers could be disproportionately affected by abolishing higher rate relief or capping tax-free cash, among other measures.
