Julia Hawkins, George Henry and Julian Rowe are heading to Sweden next week. Who should they meet? 🇸🇪
🇸🇪 Building on the Swedish delegation to Downing Street, we’re going to be in Stockholm next week and would love to meet Founders who are building the future. Who should we meet? 🇸🇪 This trip comes right after we welcomed H.R.H. Prince Daniel of Sweden and a delegation of Founders from Prins Daniels Fellowship, including industrial leaders Marcus Wallenberg, Carl Bennet, Anna Borg, Sylvia Schwaag Serger, The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences alongside Johannes Schildt (Kry), Patrik Liu Tran (Validio), Zaid Saeed (SCALINQ), Sara Landfors (Normain), Erik Dahl (TaigaTech), H.E. Ambassador Stefan Gullgren and Vishal Marria (Quantexa). I was super proud to represent the UK VC ecosystem as part of the discussions. Varun Chandra opened with a big theme: UK and Sweden share the same challenge: keeping talent, and backing the next generation of AI, science and engineering companies. Prince Daniel spoke about our shared values, long trade history, and how aligned our countries are on energy, data, engineering and a digital society. Sweden misses the UK in the EU! There was some Swedish straight talking, including Johannes Schildt pointing out that the NHS remains the UK’s biggest blocker to health innovation. I shared my journey: Kungsholmens Gymnasium/Stockholms Musikgymnasium -> The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) -> Goldman Sachs -> Last.fm -> BBC Studios -> Universal Music Group ->8 years at LocalGlobe/Phoenix Court and why we’re so bullish on both ecosystems: 🇬🇧 UK leads Europe 🇸🇪 Sweden leads per capita - and the new wave of Swedish AI companies is coming fast And Saul Klein it’s not 5h by train but it is definitely doable in a minivan as shown by Micah Klein and Telos House (even via Slush!) 🚐 Cc: George Henry, Julian Rowe, Fredrik Hjelm, Henrik Landgren, Oliver Hildebrandt, Charles Guillemet, Margarethe Böhme, Wave Ventures, Anders Hallin, Johan Brenner, LocalGlobe
