About us
ABOUT THE 'AIR PILOTS' The Honourable Company of Air Pilots (HCAP) was established (as the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators, commonly known as GAPAN) in order to represent pilot and navigator interests within all areas of aviation. The majority of its members are, or have been, professional licence holders, operating aircraft in the airlines, corporate aviation and all branches of His Majesty's armed forces. There are also many private licence holders, who are not full-time professional airmen, flying in every area of general aviation, sporting aviation and recreational flying. The particular strength of the Air Pilots is its diverse spread of members and interests in all the various areas of contemporary aviation. This, together with an entirely apolitical outlook and a constitution which forbids it from engaging in trade union activity, enables the Air Pilots to form and to promote a truly unbiased, professional and experienced view on operational aviation matters. The principal activities of the Air Pilots are centred on sponsoring and encouraging action and activities designed to ensure that aircraft are piloted and navigated safely by aviators who are highly competent, self-reliant, dependable and respected. The Air Pilots fosters the sound education and training of air pilots and air navigators from the initial training of the young pilot to the specialist training of the more mature. Through Charitable activities, education and training, technical committee work, aircrew selection, a multitude of scholarships and sponsorships, advice and recognition of the achievements of fellow aviators world-wide, the Air Pilots keeps itself at the forefront of the aviation world.

TUI Pilot Development Workshop organised by The Honourable Company Of Air Pilots! The afternoon was packed with information all about TUI. We were first given a presentation about TUI including their vision for reaching Net Zero by 2050. Moving on, Aaron Black and Martin Smith explained all about how to reach your goal of becoming an airline Pilot with the modular and intergrated pathways. As groups, we discussed the key skills of a pilot which are: —> communication —> working under pressure —> organisation —> spatial awareness/coordination —> motivation And more! The main part of the day was all about the fantastic MPL sponsorship TUI offers. Did you know there was 1300 applications in 2024 and only 30 places! It was great to hear the difference between ATPL and MPL ( training mostly in the 737 sim). Now here is the selection process: 1) online application 2)online assessment: verbal, numerical and logical reasoning 3) one way interview (make sure to research about the business!) 4) Assessment + interview ( in person and with group assessment) 5) simulator test ( focusing on pilot aptitude and competencies) The best part of the day was definitely the group assessment which was so fun! All about maths and figuring out flight plans ( more about this is on my instagram @ronikacanfly) Overall it was an amazing day. Thank you so much to Martin Smith, Aaron Black and Katherine Hodge for organising this all!

Goodbye 2024: A Year of Growth, Resilience, and Rejection 2024 has undoubtedly been one of the most challenging years of my life. I faced obstacles that tested me in ways I could never have imagined. Here’s a quick overview of why: 1. Balancing A-Level exams while feeling overwhelmed by scholarship applications. 2. Struggling with the decision of whether or not to attend university. 3. Facing rejections from various job applications. 4. Dealing with financial difficulties. 5. Being turned down for five scholarships. 6. Feeling isolated and alone. 7.Navigating personal challenges. These hurdles drained my energy, and at times, I felt like giving up on my dream of becoming a pilot. But I didn’t give up. Instead, I realised I could aim higher and seize new opportunities. Now, as I reflect on 2024, I’m proud to share some of my most rewarding achievements: 1. Attending the Young Aviators Dinner and networking with incredible individuals. 2. Volunteering at Pilot Careers Live with the British Women Pilots' Association. 3. Conducting my first major interview with Lucy Silvester, British Airways Pilot Recruitment Manager. 4. Visiting the British Airways Global Learning Centre with The Honourable Company Of Air Pilots ,where I experienced a simulator session and gained insights into cabin crew training. 5. Becoming a British Airways Student Ambassador. 6. Organising my own British Airways event at a secondary school. 7. Assisting with the British Airways Talk at Air Pilots House. 8. Completing the AirlinePrep Ltd course at British Airline Pilots' Association (BALPA). 9. Joining the committee of Young Air Pilots as an Events Coordinator. 10. Participating in the TUI Pilot Development Workshop. 11. Touring EasyJet with Mohammad Taher and Hannah Wells. 12. Attending the Airlines Conference in Westminster, London. These accomplishments far outweigh the challenges I faced and embody what resilience truly means. Throughout this journey, I’ve encountered many who doubted my dream of becoming a pilot. To anyone in a similar position: please don’t give up, even when it feels like the odds are against you. I’m not there yet, but I believe in my journey—and I hope you’ll believe in yours too. #resilence

Today, I had the distinct privilege of attending FlightPad’s inaugural event at the University of West London, and I must say, it was an incredibly enlightening experience. The day was filled with engaging and thought-provoking interactions, as I had the opportunity to hold meaningful discussions with seasoned pilots, accomplished engineers, and other passionate aviation enthusiasts. A highlight of the event was attending inspiring presentations delivered by representatives from British Airways , Loganair Limited and TUI. These industry leaders imparted invaluable advice on excelling in interviews and navigating the diverse career pathways within the aviation sector. The representatives from British Airways and TUI provided a comprehensive overview of their esteemed cadet programmes, offering crucial insights and expert guidance on the application process. Another noteworthy aspect of the day was my participation in a group assessment task organised by The Honourable Company Of Air Pilots. This exercise not only honed my communication and teamwork abilities but also underscored the importance of collaboration and adaptability in the aviation industry. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to FlightPad for curating such an exceptional event. Being in the company of such talented, driven, and like-minded individuals was truly inspiring. I eagerly look forward to attending similar events in the future, as they provide unparalleled opportunities for growth, networking, and professional development.

I can't believe this is all happening! I am very excited to say that I have recently completed my gliding scholarship courses from both The Air League and The Honourable Company Of Air Pilots. I have had an absolute blast over the last 3 weeks learning about flying gliders and soaring through the skies, and I can't wait to continue my training at the club. I have a lot to learn and I am very blessed to be able to begin my flying training as a glider pilot! Words simply can't express how grateful I am for both organisations as well as the London Gliding Club and its amazing instructors for making this possible. I have learnt so much about the world of gliding over the last 3 weeks and I am looking forward to continuing this journey to solo and beyond! The friends I have made through these courses are invaluable and I am very thankful for the opportunity to meet them and train together. Finally, I'd like to thank both Virgin Atlantic and Boeing for sponsoring these scholarships as none of this would be possible without their support. This experience reinforces the fact that I belong in the skies and will stop at nothing to become a pilot in the future!

Yesterday was an extraordinary and unforgettable day. Rayan Akhtar and I had the distinct privilege of being invited by Virgin Atlantic to spend a remarkable day in their company and share insights about our experiences during our flying scholarships. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet and engage with Claire Henderson, Ellie Haddock, and Daniel White as we discussed our aspirations of becoming airline pilots, as well as the pathways we intend to pursue to achieve our ultimate goal of reaching the flight deck. The day became even more captivating as we visited CAE Gatwick, where we were given an exclusive tour of their Type Rating Simulators. To our immense delight, Virgin Atlantic had graciously arranged simulator sessions for us, allowing us to experience the Airbus A330 simulator firsthand. Under the expert guidance of Danny, who provided exceptional instruction, we honed our skills in executing takeoffs and landings, an experience that was both exhilarating and profoundly educational. Every moment spent at Virgin Atlantic’s VHQ was truly a highlight of my journey. I am deeply grateful to Claire Henderson, Ellie Haddock, Dan White, and the entire Virgin Atlantic team for orchestrating such a phenomenal and memorable experience. Additionally, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the The Honourable Company Of Air Pilots Company of Air Pilots, whose steadfast support has been the cornerstone of these incredible opportunities.
