Today 27 South Strategies had the privilege of welcoming 5 #Massachusetts legislators to VEG ER for Pets Newton—and no, it wasn’t because their dogs swallowed socks (this time). Our guests got a firsthand look at the VEG magic: 🐾 the phenomenal humans who keep the hospital humming 24/7, 🏥 the life-saving work happening behind the scenes, 💼 the hospital’s growing economic impact, and 🤝 the deep connections VEG has built with the local community. Huge thanks to our Tommy Vitolo Bill MacGregor Amy Sangiolo Greg Schwartz, MD Josh Tarsky for taking the time to see how dedicated veterinary emergency care teams are supporting pets and people across the Commonwealth. 🎵 Every semester I invite an artist, musician, or industry professional to my Emerson College class to discuss #authenticity,#language, and #storytelling. It is a central understanding in #communication that the moment we speak, write, or sing, the meaning of our words no longer belongs solely to us. It becomes filtered through each listener’s identity, experience, and worldview. This semester I was joined by Dan Wriggins of the band Friendship to discuss his breathtaking album Caveman Wakes Up. I love hearing artists unpack the intentions behind their work, then comparing that to my understanding: not to decide who’s “right,” but to appreciate the space between intention and reception. We're thrilled to share that the Massachusetts House of Representatives has included funding for Science Club for Girls in its FY26 budget! Deepest thanks to Marjorie Decker for championing this amendment, Speaker Mariano, Ways and Means Chair Aaron Michlewitz, and to the incredible co-sponsors who stood with us in support of equity in STEM education: Representatives Mike Connolly, Steve Owens, Tara Hong, James Arena-DeRosa, Samantha Montaño, Paul McMurtry, Patricia Duffy, Kristin Kassner, and Vanna Howard. While it’s not final - it still needs to pass the Senate and receive the Governor’s approval - this marks incredible progress for the mission of our organization. We’re especially excited to advocate for a long-overdue effort to require the regulation and licensure of veterinary technicians in Massachusetts.
