  • Airbus this weekend is out in force at Air Legend airshow in Melun-Villaroche, France. Our Heritage team is presenting the Messerschmitt Me262 in flight and on static display. We also showcase the amazing restoration project of a French fighter, the VG 33, of the 1930s designed and built by a predecessor company of Airbus: Arsenal de l'aéronautique with the fuselage and 12 cylinder Hispano Suiza engine displayed on our stand. We are displaying a visual retrospective of French combat aircraft of the 1930s built by our French predecessors at many of the current Airbus sites in France. Spectators can see in flying and static display a large number of aircraft and helicopters connected to Airbus' history such as the Fouga Magister, Morane Saulnier MS405, SA341 Gazelle, Morane Saulnier Paris and Fouga Zéphyr. Not to forget of course Airbus' current range of aircraft, represented by the Airbus Helicopters EC665 Tiger & NH90 and the impressive A400M which are showcased by the French armed forces. • If you are hot - they’re hot! 🥵 Glaciers, Earth’s immense freshwater reservoirs, are melting at an alarming rate due to rising temperatures. 🌡️ The Airbus-built satellites 🛰️ not only map glaciers’ footprint, they also provide accurate data such as ice thickness and volume. The resulting insights can help scientists detect early warning signs, and inform policymakers on how to preserve these natural wonders. • Airbus Defence and Space’s latest German Improved Air Defence System (GIADS IV) has achieved Full Technical Capability within the Luftwaffe - German Airforce, following extensive and rigorous testing on the way to Full Operational Capability – also entailing aspects such as training - which is expected in 2026. The system, running on the Deployable Control and Reporting Centre (DCRC), is now fully integrated into the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS). This important milestone follows the air battle management command and control system’s Initial Technical Capability in 2023 and its deployment to the Baltic Sea region in 2024 as part of NATO’s enhanced Baltic Air Policing mission. The system supports the core mission of ensuring the safety and sovereignty of German airspace 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. At the heart of the next-generation system is Airbus Fortion 1SkyControl software. It enhances NATO interoperability by enabling seamless data communication through the native integration of Tactical Data Links. The software integrates data from multiple radar sensors, ensuring high tracking accuracy and automatically correlating flight and mission plans. It provides multi-domain situational awareness and assists in identifying airborne objects, providing tactical guidance, and coordinating with both military and civil air traffic control. GIADS IV is capable of automatically identifying all objects in the airspace, which significantly reduces the risk of mistakenly targeting friendly forces The GIADS IV rollout includes both hardware and software upgrades for the DCRC. The software uses an open system architecture, incorporating private cloud and machine learning technologies, ensuring flexibility for future upgrades and integration of new systems. With a recently signed contract to upgrade both stationary Control and Reporting Centres, Airbus will continue to empower the German Air Force in safeguarding national and coalition airspace.
