Healthy habits take root over time. Yesterday, Aspire Health, Montage Health Foundation, Monterey Bay FC, and partners celebrated Healthy Youth Field Day—a high-energy event that brought 150 students from northern and southern Monterey County together for a day of movement and fun. This wasn’t just a one-day initiative, it was the culmination of years and months of school-based health education across Monterey County aimed to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity by promoting small, achievable healthy habits. Leveraging the pediatrician recommended 5-2-1-0 model, Aspire Health works year-round with schools to build a culture of wellness by providing turn-key health curriculum that can be completed in a day, which is built to empower youth with tools to make everyday healthy choices. Healthy Youth Field Day brings that learning to life with a day full of soccer drills, relay games, and more. Started this morning reflecting on last week where Aspire Health had the opportunity to inspire other communities with our Healthy Together program at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting in Minneapolis. Natalie Plinneke did an incredible job sharing how partnerships across clinics, technology, and community help us support the health of children and families across Monterey County. I left last week feeling inspired by all the amazing public health work happening around our country, and I am feeling hopeful this week that communities will show up to #voteforhealth #apha2024 #publichealth
