About us

Established in 1979, the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) is a federation of member organizations worldwide whose missions are to promote the scientific understanding of the etiology, prevention, and treatment of atherosclerosis. With 58 member organizations spanning 68 countries, the IAS coordinates the global exchange of scientific information, fosters research and education on cardio-cerebro-metabolic and thrombosis risk factors into the development of atherosclerosis, and facilitates the translation of knowledge into improving clinical practice worldwide. Through its global partnerships with member societies, the IAS: - Addresses unmet patient needs and clinical barriers to patient care - Empowers leaders within medical societies around the world to become stronger clinicians and advocates on behalf of patients - Creates consensus policies that seek to harmonize guidelines and provide insights to special populations where challenges exist - Convenes world renowned leaders and young investigators every three years for its flagship Triennial Congress, commonly known as the International Symposium on Atherosclerosis (ISA) - Transcends national boundaries across all continents to promote cardiometabolic health
