BLAC Internship Program
Advertising Services
An internship program designed to bring more Black people into advertising, further prepared to thrive and lead.
About us
To bring more Black people into advertising, ensuring they can fully express themselves, find community, and ultimately lead. BLAC (Building Leaders and Creators) is a paid twelve-week internship for creative thinkers that takes place at ad agencies across the country. Interns participate in shared experiences with shared resources and projects, and upon completion of the program become part of a network of peers and agency leaders who will continue to provide support throughout their careers. We are a champion for the more diverse and inclusive advertising industry of the future and seek to inspire and be inspired by a new generation of Black talent.

I had the opportunity to create a billboard design for Rosemoor Community Association to help promote one of their annual garden walk event. To be honest, this was a really great opportunity for me—and a fun one to work on. I wanted to design something that truly represented the community, especially with the gardening theme since so many people in the neighborhood are into that. But I also wanted it to feel positive and beautiful, something that adds to the neighborhood in a meaningful way. This is my first design ever being put on a billboard, so I had to come see it in person, soak it all in, and of course—grab a selfie with it. They got this billboard spot for a year, so I’ll be updating it with a new design in a month.

Four months ago, I didn’t know what experiential marketing was. Then I got a call from an Alabama area code. John Lesley Morton told me that out of 700 applicants, MKG - Experiential Marketing chose me as their Creative Strategy Intern. I knew then I had to rise to the occasion. In time, my greatest weakness became my greatest strength. As an outsider in the space, working with clients and household names like HBO (The White Lotus), Netflix (Wednesday), DoorDash (A Minecraft Movie), my fear was eclipsed by genuine openness, curiosity, and frankly, naiveté. Today, as I complete my internship and seek new opportunities in entertainment marketing and creative strategy, I’m grateful. Without the continual support of BLAC Internship Program captained by the incredible Nicolet Gatewood and the candid Jaydin Geer, I wouldn’t be here. And if not for the patience, guidance, and generosity of my supervisor and Creative Director Leah Taylor Dunbar, I wouldn’t have succeeded.

Wanted to show the creative process from start to finish for my recent book project with Kansas City fashion designer Cory Infinite. I oversaw and executed the entire production of the book, from art direction, photography, design, interviews and a bunch of other nitty gritty things. Always love a chance to work many different creative muscles. While there was a lot more that went into making this book, these were the moments that felt the most important and worth sharing. Thanks again to Cory for being an amazing artist to work with, FOX 4 KC for having us on air, and The Museum of Kansas City for hosting the release 🙏
