We're proud to share the opening of our new Blue Bottle One Grove Cafe in South Korea. The space draws inspiration from the naruteo, the historic ferry dock that once served the Magok fishing village. These docks were places of connection, where people and goods paused briefly before continuing their journey. We reimagined this idea of pause and flow as the foundation of the cafe's architecture and guest experience. Situated at the center of One Grove, a complex where pathways converge, the cafe is designed to gently integrate with its surroundings. Soft transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, calm colors, and natural textures reflect the movement of the city while offering a moment of rest. Even the furniture reflects the spirit of the naruteo. Chairs inspired by deck-like structures feature a solid frame topped with wooden panels, inviting guests to settle, breathe, and continue refreshed. At Blue Bottle, we believe one way hospitality is expressed is through how a space makes you feel. With One Grove, our hope is simple: that every visit offers warmth and restoration, even in passing moments.
About us
“Blue Bottle is coffee and people. Not necessarily in that order.” —James Freeman, Founder In our eyes, coffee’s main purpose is to be delicious. We go to great lengths to source, roast, taste, and prepare coffee so our guests can enjoy it at peak deliciousness. We know that good coffee depends on strong community. We work directly with farmers around the world to source our coffees as sustainably and ethically as we can. We hire team members who are dedicated to creating beautiful experiences with coffee. From the farm to the cafe, our coffee is handled by people who care.

Our Coffee Sourcing & Relationship Manager and Sustainability Manager just returned from a field visit to Guatemala where Blue Bottle is sponsoring Los Volcanes Coffee, our supplier of 13 years, to host a pre-commercial trial site in World Coffee Research's F1 Hybrids Program. While these trials launched in 2022, the plants are in the nursery and preparing to go into the ground next spring. To learn about the status of the trials and the desired outcomes by 2030, we spoke with Los Volcanes Founder and Creative Director Josue Morales, whose experience planting diverse varieties and championing organic practices is guiding his approach to shepherding the final four variety candidates through this final trial phase. Our Mission Rock cafe is open in San Francisco's newest waterfront neighborhood. In partnership with Interior Architects, the space reflects the city's spirit through movement, light, and color. Subtle blue gradients across the bar, walls, and panels echo the bay, while prismatic finishes capture the sparkle of waves in sunlight. At the heart of the cafe is an oversized community table, a place for connection in this vibrant, eclectic new neighborhood. As Blue Bottle grows, we remain committed to creating spaces that foster community and offer our guests the highest quality coffee and hospitality.

We recently gathered our global teams in each of our markets for a shared tasting and conversation to mark Blue Bottle’s next chapter in sustainability: advancing regenerative agriculture within our coffee value chain and promoting origin innovation on our menu and through support for collaborative industry initiatives. From Shanghai to Chicago, baristas, production teams, and office staff came together to taste “Beyond Arabica” coffees — including Excelsa selections from our partners South India Coffee Company and 96B cafe & roastery. We were joined by their founders and Dr. Aaron Davis of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, who shared insights on the role of genetic diversity in preserving coffee’s future. It’s not every day that even coffee people get to connect directly with producers and leading voices in the field. We’re grateful to all who participated, and proud to kickstart this next chapter by tasting, learning, and imagining the future of coffee together.

We’re proud to share that Blue Bottle Coffee has opened its newest cafe at Shenzhen Bay MixC, our third location in Shenzhen. This space was designed in collaboration with WrkShp, drawing inspiration from the tidal lands that once shaped Shenzhen Bay. Soft stone textures, hand-stained green furniture, and lush greenery create an urban oasis that reflects the harmony between nature, culture, and innovation. China is an important and growing market for Blue Bottle. Each new cafe represents our commitment to craft, hospitality, and design excellence, fostering meaningful connections with great coffee for more guests.

We believe the next chapter of climate action in coffee will be written at origin — in the fields, communities, and ecosystems where coffee begins. That is where our work now continues. We are supporting coffee producers as they transition to regenerative agriculture, sponsoring variety development to improve farmer access to climate-adaptive coffees, and establishing a role for species beyond Arabica within the specialty coffee category — embedding more resilience in a global coffee trade currently dependent on just two species. On regenerative agriculture, we partnered with a consultant and four suppliers to co-develop strategies tailored to each region’s unique needs and opportunities. Our first pilot launches in 2026. On origin innovation, we are featuring more genetic diversity across our menu — from Liberica to Excelsa — while participating in industry initiatives developing the next generation of high-performing, climate-adaptive coffees. As climate change alters the landscape of coffee production, we are not only working to avert the most dire consequences. We are also supporting farmers innovating for the future — together reimagining coffee as a holistic production system that protects and restores natural resources like the soil, water, and biodiversity, while strengthening farming communities. We’re proud to share one of our biggest achievements yet: In 2024, Blue Bottle Coffee achieved carbon neutrality. Since committing to this goal in 2021, we’ve reduced our greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 18.4% vs. our 2018 baseline, and compensated for remaining emissions with high-quality carbon credits. But we’re not stopping there. Our new goal is to contribute to the future of coffee by embedding resilience at Origin and sparking innovation in the cup. As climate change reshapes coffee production, we’re working alongside farmers to help shore up soil health, embrace coffee's genetic diversity, and strengthen communities — ensuring coffee has a future for generations to come. This year, we continued our journey with Blue Bottle Studio, a series of intimate residencies created to share the pinnacle of our craft through a tasting menu unlike anything else in specialty coffee. Each residency is designed with intention: a small group of guests, a set time to pause, and a progression of drinks that trace the story of coffee – from seed to flower, cherry to bean. We hosted residencies in Seoul and Kyoto earlier in the year, and are now welcoming guests once again in Kyoto (through December 1) and Hong Kong (through October 26). The current menu turns our attention to species beyond Arabica, including Liberica and Excelsa. Rarely experienced at a specialty level, these coffees carry expressive flavors of fruit, grain, and tropical depth. They offer a glimpse of coffee's tomorrow: more diverse, more sustainable, and filled with new stories. For us, Studio is about creating space for curiosity, discovery, and connection, bringing guests closer to what makes coffee so endlessly compelling.

Coffee is precious. As climate change threatens the Arabica species, Blue Bottle is focused on advancing options for farmers so coffee can be not just viable but a promising future for generations to come. In this era of accelerated climate change, members of our team traveled to Lima, Peru, for a fireside chat with Latin American coffee producers and industry experts, from botanists to chemical engineers and green coffee traders, to investigate the sustainability of the coffee business. Our Sustainability Manager outlined Blue Bottle's sharpened focus on enhancing resilience within coffee landscapes where we buy through regenerative agriculture, and we saw firsthand how farmers' access to improved varieties is helping producers adapt to climate risks. Our Sr. Director of Global Coffee Experience sat down with the Head of Coffee Research for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, to further discuss the role of species beyond Arabica in providing another layer of protection and promise for farmers facing climate risks such as pests, disease, and extreme weather events. At Blue Bottle, we're introducing more species on our menu and redefining "quality" in a sector long beholden to Arabica. We are also supporting innovation within Arabica as our suppliers experiment in post-harvest processing and host variety trials exploring new possibilities in coffee. We are excited to showcase the results as producers innovate and bring a fresh perspective on deliciousness for coffee drinkers everywhere.

We’ve opened our newest cafe in Osaka, just steps from Osaka Station. Created in collaboration with Keiji Ashizawa Design, the cafe is inspired by the city’s culture and landmarks — from an octagonal community table and brass pendant light echoing Tsutenkaku Tower to a golden coffee bar that nods to the opulence of Osaka Castle. The result is a space that balances modern design with warmth: concrete softened by washi paper lights, upholstered seating, and natural woods, all crafted to create a tranquil refuge in the heart of the city. We look forward to welcoming our community in Osaka to gather, reflect, and connect over coffee.
