The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) Transportation Policy Board unanimously adopted the Regional Safety Action Plan—a powerful commitment to protect lives and prevent traffic deaths across Central Texas. Led by DKS in partnership with Au+Engineering, BGE, Inc., Cambridge Systematics, Inc., CD&P, Fehr & Peers, Foresight Planning & Engineering Services, LLC, and SV Traffic, LLC, this effort brought together voices from six counties—Bastrop County, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays County, Travis County (developed under a separate grant and contract), and Williamson County—and City of Austin to create a unified vision for safer streets. This plan is more than a document—it’s a shared promise to our communities: • To prioritize the safety of everyone who walks, bikes, drives, or rolls. • To make data-driven decisions that reduce harm, especially in vulnerable communities. • To implement low-cost, life-saving changes like enhanced lighting and safer crossings. • To support consistent, region-wide policies that slow vehicles and protect people. DKS’s John Bosket was recently quoted in Columbia Gorge News on Hood River’s adoption of a new proportionate share fee to support a proposed roundabout at the intersection of Cascade Avenue with Mt. Adams Avenue. The need for a significant improvement at this intersection has been one of the biggest barriers to approving new development in the Westside District, which contains most of the city's developable land.
