On the occasion of Bastille Day, Consul General Valérie Baraban had the honor of bestowing one of France’s highest distinctions — the Ordre National du Mérite — upon Liz Wiley, who served as Honorary Consul of France in Austin from 2015 to 2024.
Liz is a woman of passion, a brilliant professional, a pioneer, and above all, a true friend of France 🇫🇷. She has championed Franco-American friendship for over 20 years, building bridges between our communities, connecting leaders and entrepreneurs, and supporting the French community in moments of joy and challenge.
She brought French filmmakers to Austin, connected our cities for green innovation, and even organized a conversation between Emmanuel Macron and Governor Abbott on smart cities and digital transition.
Liz’s energy is endless, her generosity unstoppable, and her loyalty unmatched. Her legacy in Texas is lasting, deep, and inspiring.
By awarding Liz Wiley the Ordre National du Mérite, the French Republic honors her vision, action, and heart, and celebrates her exceptional contribution to the Franco-American friendship 🇫🇷🇺🇸.
Merci, Liz, for everything you have done, and continue to do, for our community.
Vive l’amitié franco-américaine! 🇫🇷🇺🇸
