About us

Girls Who Invest (“GWI”) is a non-profit organization founded in April 2015 dedicated to increasing the number of women in portfolio management and executive leadership in the asset management industry. Our benchmark for success is to have 30% of the world’s investable capital managed by women by 2030. This goal is in sharp contrast to 2014, a year in which less than 10% of the world’s investable capital was managed by women. We will focus on education, industry outreach, accessibility and career placement to achieve our mission. At GWI, we aim to create programs to inspire and support young women to become tomorrow’s leaders. By completing GWI’s rigorous program, talented and motivated women will be well prepared to enter the industry across all asset classes including public and private equity, fixed income, credit, hedge funds, real estate, infrastructure, and to be skilled allocators of capital.

  • From coast to coast, our GWI community continues to come together for meaningful moments. It’s always inspiring to see our Alumni reconnect — whether it’s joining a workout class, gathering for painting and ceramics, going bowling, or simply taking a stroll through their city. Each meetup is a reminder of the lasting impact and connections made through GWI. Thank you to everyone who helped make these moments possible, and to everyone who joined!

  • Apollo Global Management, Inc. just kicked off our first-ever Pathways to Private Credit session—and what a launch! In attendance were 30 GWI Alumni joined Kerianne Cottle, CFA and Changfu Sun for a case study deep dive into private credit investing. Their approach was hands-on and dynamic, bringing real industry perspectives to life and creating the kind of interactive learning experience that helps our Alumni thrive in their careers. Massive thanks to the Apollo Opportunity Foundation team—Lauren Coape-Arnold, Robby Rutkoff, and Margaret Werner—the Apollo Deal Team, and especially to Scottie (Wardell) McGuire (GWI Advisory Board Member) and Robert Bittencourt (GWI Board Member) for championing this partnership. GWI Pathways Programs deliver specialized training for our Alumni in key investment areas, including private credit, private equity, and real estate. Apollo's leadership in launching this work is invaluable, and we're grateful for Partners who are committed to supporting our Alumni through innovative educational initiatives.

Last week, our very own Michelle DeFossett had the opportunity to join an inspiring group of industry leaders at the MetLife Investment Management Women’s Symposium in Atlanta. The gathering focused on uniting the community of investment professionals across the Southern US. In partnership with Nasdaq, MetLife Investment Management curated a space where emerging voices and seasoned leaders could connect, share perspectives, and align on the mission forward. We believe that leadership is measured not only by expertise, but by the people and opportunities elevated along the way. This symposium brought that belief to life, uniting professionals who are committed to expanding access, opening doors, and shaping the future of our industry together. A heartfelt thank you to Suzanna Sanchez Doyle and the entire MetLife Investment Management team for hosting a thoughtful and impactful experience!

Last week, GWI Alumni and team members had the opportunity to attend the Insurance Women’s Investment Network (IWIN), which brought together senior women leaders from across the insurance investment space to share their stories of success, tales of challenges overcome, and lessons that shaped their careers! Following the discussion, GWI Alumni had the opportunity to engage directly with these industry leaders in a speed-community-building session to build meaningful connections and gain valuable career insights. GWI is proud of our continued partnership with IWIN, and we look forward to the next chapter of our collaboration!

  • We love seeing the GWI Alumni community staying connected in creative ways! Recently, Alya Ahmed, Class of 2019, and Margaret Werner, Class of 2019, organized a morning “Stroll & Sip” through Central Park, bringing together GWI Alumni from across NYC Midtown! What better way to start off the day than a stroll in the brisk Autumn morning surrounded by exciting conversations and steaming hot coffee!  Thank you to Alya and Margaret for sparking this initiative, and to all the Alumni who’ve joined in!
