We had a full house this week as IPT Past Presidents Rolston Dyer, Dan Peterson, and Bob Goldman rolled up their sleeves and sifted through 50 years of photos, files, and wonderfully nostalgic treasures. They’re leading the charge on a special education session and big history reveal for the 2026 Annual Conference. The stories alone are worth the price of admission! We are excited to see how their work brings IPT’s history to life in a whole new way next year!

Grateful to have been a part of the planning committee for the 2025 Institute for Professionals in Taxation Credits & Incentives Symposium in Arlington, TX. It was a great opportunity to hear what’s shaping the landscape and reconnect with peers in the industry. Bernard Baumohl’s keynote stood out. Strong growth in energy, industrial production, manufacturing, and data centers — all sectors our McGuireWoods Consulting team has had our hands in recently — but also real risks ahead: geopolitical uncertainty, tariff pressures, and fragile global shipping routes. Strong markets demand vigilance. An ethics session in discretionary incentives reinforced the importance of transparency, documentation, and staying well within the guardrails. Enjoyed working with Ford Graham and Gabriel Sermeno in developing a presentation on site selection and global shifts. Great conversation about how companies can better navigate capital deployment, site and workforce needs, and incentive support. We also spent time exploring emerging AI tools and hearing from states, including my home state of North Carolina and Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC), on programs that can help our clients. A highlight outside the sessions was visiting the new National Medal of Honor Museum across the street, which opened earlier this year. It’s an immersive and inspiring experience. I saw the very first Medal of Honor awarded to Union Army Pvt. Jacob Parrott for extraordinary bravery during the Andrews Raid in the Civil War.
