Welcoming our 2026 JVS Young Professionals Board! 🎉 Made up of professionals ages 22–35, the JVS YPB meets monthly to support JVS through fundraising, "friendraising," and community-building events. Together, this group raises funds, spreads the word about JVS’ mission, engages young professionals citywide, and builds leadership skills along the way. We're excited to introduce you to each of them over the next several months and we're even more excited to see the great work this dedicated group will do to advance JVS' mission! #YoungProfessionalsBoard #Engage #Encourage #Empower #JVSKC

About us
JVS was established in 1949 to assist Holocaust survivors, refugees and those returning from WWII, enabling them to build better lives in the United States. Today, our programs meet the needs of all who face barriers to employment. Whether it is coaching a client on how to request a disability accommodation from their employer or helping a newly-arrived refugee enroll their children in school, JVS works to empower people to address challenges to their self-sufficiency.

Did You Know? JVS offers interpreter and translation services in 35 different languages to the Kansas City community. In order to encourage community accessibility and inclusivity, JVS facilitates thousands of interpreting and translating encounters to schools, social service agencies, hospitals and legal services in more than 35 languages each year. We provide the following services: Written translation Phone interpretation In-person interpretation We aim to raise the standard of healthcare and social services by providing qualified interpreters and translators who can serve the area’s limited-English proficient (LEP) communities. Last month, we celebrated alongside partners at New Reflections Technical Institute as one of our clients, Hafizullah, graduated from their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program. Hafizullah successfully completed 160 hours of combined classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction and graduated on December 22, 2025. He is now prepared to begin driving for commercial businesses and transporting loads across the country! Thank you, New Reflections Technical Institute for supporting JVS clients in their CDL training. #CDL #Graduation #Engage #Encourage #Empower #JVSKC

Souleymane Adam is the Volunteer Manager at JVS. Originally from Sudan, he arrived in the US in 2014. He shares that his favorite meal from his culture is gima (a flavorful minced meat stew with potatoes and carrots). Every day at work, he works with our amazing volunteers and is always recruiting more people to volunteer their time with JVS to make every day special for our newest neighbors in Kansas City. For Souleymane, home means “great neighbors, family, friends, and somewhere you feel safe and have the opportunity to thrive.”

This year, we witnessed remarkable resilience in the face of truly unprecedented and scary times. Refugee admissions halted indefinitely, but families and individuals who are already here continued to access essential services. They also found a welcoming community ready to stand with them. Job seekers gained the skills and confidence needed to enter new careers. Young people enrolled in school. And through it all, your support powered our ability to respond swiftly, thoughtfully, and with dignity. We wish you health and happiness in the New Year! -The JVS Team #Christmas #Engage #Encourage #Empower #JVSKC
