In May 2024, a False Claims Act complaint was unsealed in the Central District of California against King & Spalding client ScribeAmerica and other defendants. The relators alleged that the defendants had coordinated on a scheme to defraud government healthcare programs by falsifying records. The complaint asserted 38 claims and sought damages and penalties of more than $3 trillion (which were alleged without any specificity or credible evidence in support). All defendants filed motions to dismiss. The Honorable Cynthia Valenzuela of the United States District Court for the Central District of California issued an order granting the motions to dismiss with prejudice.
