Ever watched an airport wake up before the world does? I have. Last week, I had the chance to be in Pittsburgh for the grand opening of the new PIT Airport — and instead of wearing my usual Business Development hat, I spent the night doing something very different: manning the garage. It ended up being one of the most grounding experiences I’ve had at LAZ. There’s something humbling about standing where most passengers never look — at the entry gates, the cashier desk, the quiet corners of a parking structure that sit in stillness long before the day begins. Then, slowly, the lights shift, the first cars roll in, and the entire place starts to wake up. In those moments, I saw the heartbeat of operations. The people who make travel feel seamless. The team members who show up in the dark, in the cold, before the rush — the ones who make “smooth” look effortless. And I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible LAZ team on the ground that night. The people in these photos — and many not pictured — brought this launch to life with professionalism, grit, and genuine teamwork. Airports feel big, but it’s the small details handled by people like them that make the whole system breathe. LAZ’s partnership with PIT came alive for me there — not in meetings or paperwork, but in the quiet collaboration between every garage attendant, every operations lead, and every airport staff member working together to open something new. As passengers, we arrive and move on. As operators, we know it takes an unseen sunrise to make it all look easy. Proud to have witnessed that light. Proud of the LAZ team. Proud of PIT.
