We’re excited to share that MBTA member Sargent has acquired E.L. Vining & Son, Inc. of Farmington. The acquisition was completed on October 31, 2025, and supports Sargent’s long-term growth as the company approaches its 100th anniversary in 2026. E.L. Vining & Son, founded in 1956, is known for its quality work, integrity, and community commitment. Their expertise in DOT, sitework, utility, and landfill projects aligns well with Sargent’s core services, making this a natural and strategic fit. “This acquisition brings together two Maine-based companies that share a deep respect for people, craftsmanship, and community,” said Eric Ritchie, President & CEO of Sargent Corporation. “E.L. Vining & Son’s culture mirrors our own, rooted in doing the right thing, honing our craft, and investing in people and winning in the field. We’re excited to welcome their talented team of professionals into employee-ownership and continue serving the communities of Western and Central Maine with even greater resources.” As part of the transition, the Farmington office will become Sargent’s Western Maine hub, and roughly 40 Vining employees will join the Sargent team as employee-owners through Sargent’s ESOP. All current projects will continue uninterrupted, and the acquisition brings additional equipment and aggregate resources across Maine. Congratulations to Sargent and welcome to the Vining team! #MBTA #MaineTransportation #MBTAMemberNews #SargentCorporation #ELVining

Word on the street is that one of our members, Chadwick-BaRoss, is doing great work in New Hampshire! The Town of Lancaster just became the first in the region to operate its municipal transfer station completely off-grid, powered by solar energy and electric equipment. ⚡🌱 With leadership from Transfer Station Manager Rusty Scott and Assistant Manager Rob Blanchette, and support from Chadwick-BaRoss and Volvo Construction Equipment, the town now powers balers, compactors, and even an electric wheel loader with solar energy. This change is reducing emissions, fuel costs, and noise on site. Best of all? Grants secured with help from Chadwick-BaRoss covered 45% of the equipment cost, making the project financially achievable for the town. A huge congratulations to everyone involved. Lancaster is proving what is possible when innovation, sustainability, and strong partnerships come together! #MBTA #MaineTransportation #LancasterNH #ChadwickBaRoss

Happy Transportation Tuesday! We’re throwing it back to August, when Cianbro and MaineDOT wrapped up the impressive rehabilitation of the Southport Swing Bridge! 👷♀️🌉 They worked tirelessly over the course of a year and a half replacing key structural components, upgrading mechanical systems, and improving safety features, all while keeping pedestrian access open. This update will help the bridge serve the community for another 30 years. Huge thanks to everyone who helped make it happen and for keeping Maine connected! #MBTA #MaineTransportation #TransportationTuesday

This past weekend, Maine lost a dear friend. Bill Diamond spent his life protecting children and standing up for those who couldn’t. Through Walk a Mile in Their Shoes, a nonprofit he founded in 2023, and far beyond, he pushed for justice with courage, heart, and conviction. During his time under the dome, Bill led bipartisan efforts through his work on the Transportation and Appropriations Committees, where he helped secure much need infrastructure funding. He will be deeply missed, but his impact will always be with us. Photo: ME Democrats
