Big changes in small hospitals often start with one person, like April Hansen! For 15 years, April has strengthened care in Missouri’s rural hospitals by building workflows and systems designed specifically for the unique needs of smaller facilities. From being a voice for Critical Access Hospital labs to launching the Mercy Swing Bed Collaborative to connect 18 of our facilities, April is bridging the gap between rural hospitals and larger health systems. This year, April was honored with the 2025 Missouri Rural Health Champion Award for her outstanding impact on rural health care across the state. Thank you, April, for making a big difference where it matters most! #FacesofRuralHealthCare #RuralHealth #FacesofMercy

On #GivingTuesday, we celebrate generosity. Thanks to the support of our donors, Mercy Health Foundation can continue providing care and resources to those who need it most. Every gift makes a difference — and today, we simply want to express our gratitude for helping us bring hope and healing to our communities.

Advent invites us to pause, breathe and look for the light of God’s love even in seasons of uncertainty. In this season of waiting, we are reminded of the call to hope. As we light the candle, we remember that God’s healing presence is with us on every step of the journey.

For nearly a century, we've welcomed thousands and thousands of newborns into the world at #MercySoutheast. Many of those tiny babies grew up to become caregivers themselves, returning to the very halls where their own lives began. And now, in some truly full-circle moments, some are working hand-in-hand with the caregivers who once held them as infants, who are now helping them deliver their own children. In 1996, Julie helped deliver baby Sydney to Mary, an RN in our ICU. Now, the two work side by side in the Labor and Delivery unit, and earlier this month, Julie had the honor of helping deliver Sydney’s own baby. Nearly three decades ago, nurses Connie and Staci delivered Tatiana, Mercy Fitness Center personal trainer, to her mother, Lorey, surgical technologist at Mercy Clinic Women's Health. Just a few months ago, that same team supported Tatiana through the birth of her child, making Lorey a proud grandmother. Generations of people help give our hospital its heart, bringing to life the compassionate care and exceptional service that define who we are.

Our caregivers at Mercy Hospital Jefferson were flaunting their whiskers in support of Movember — the month dedicated to building awareness around men's health concerns like prostate cancer, testicular cancer and suicide prevention. Special thank you to Dr. Karthik Iyer, chief medical officer, for leading the charge with his mustache all month!

Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you to all our caregivers, families, patients and friends who allow us to care for our communities. We hope your life is blessed with loved ones and good health, and that your holiday crafts turn out even half as good as these creations from some of our younger patients!
