After 8 years, Friday was my last official day at City Hall working in the Mayor's Office. It has been an honor to serve through both the first and second terms of Mayor Randall Woodfin's administration. From Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs to Senior Director of Governmental Affairs, and most recently the Senior Public Affairs Officer, every role has been an incredible opportunity that I have truly valued. Through the years, I've had the privilege of creating and implementing the City of Birmingham’s Legislative Agenda at both the state and federal levels. In partnership with the Mayor, City Council, city departments and our lobbyists, we advanced significant legislation and initiatives including Glock switch prohibition, exhibition driving measures, entertainment zones, the city employee pension, the Alabama Land Bank amendment, code enforcement lien foreclosure, and more. As the City's Board and Agencies Liaison, I had the opportunity to design and lead the Boards and Agencies Training, focusing on governance, ethics, and board member responsibility. I also served as the spokesperson and partner for hundreds of organizations. I would especially like to thank the Big 10 Mayor’s Association, Birmingham Airport Authority, Vulcan Park & Museum, Railroad Park Foundation, LandBank Authority, Keep Birmingham Beautiful Board, Central Alabama Building Trades and Labor Council for the meaningful work we accomplished together. I'm deeply appreciative of the relationships, the work and the growth. Thank you, Randall and team, for the last 8 years. I am looking forward to my next chapter!

This past week, I had the opportunity to be in conversation with philosopher and scholar, William Paris, to discuss his recently published Oxford University Press book entitled Race, Time, and Utopia (2025). The comments made throughout the workshop were amazing and I truly left the room enlightened by Professor Paris's argument for transforming social practices in the midst of racial domination. I am thrilled to extend tremendous gratitude to the amazing team at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for their generous grant that made it possible for us to purchase brand-new iMacs for our student computer lab! These powerful tools are already transforming the learning experience for our students, faculty, and staff - enhancing coursework, creativity, research, and overall productivity. The excitement on our students’ faces says it all! A special thank you to Courtney Showell and K B. for championing this effort and believing in the mission and work happening here at the Morehouse Division of Business & Economics. Your partnership makes a real difference, and we are truly grateful. These are unprecedented times. And so, it was refreshing to speak today to Olivia Robbins and the Latino Law Students Association at the University of Chicago Law School about civil rights efforts within the present moment, and historically, especially in Chicago. Onward. #civilrights
