At today's meeting of CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), NAPNAP member Dr. Allison Grady urged the committee to rely on long standing, widely accepted evidence on vaccine safety and efficacy to protect all infants, children and adolescents. Herd immunity is critical in protecting both healthy and vulnerable kids. Her comments can be heard here.

Today, the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP)'s Vaccine Integrity Project released a study that found delaying the hepatitis B vaccination schedule for infants in the US could increase infections, deaths and health care costs. The report indicated that the US policy of administering HBV vaccinations to newborns has reduced infections in children by more than 95% since 1991. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has raised health issues with the timing of the hepatitis B vaccine schedule, and the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which is meeting this week, potentially may vote to recommend changes in when infants receive a vaccination.
