Recently, we caught up with Chris Tucker, Director of Substations, and he shared a powerful tradition that started years ago and still lives on today. Back when Chris was a foreman in the field, he began hanging an American flag on top of dead-end legs or static poles during station builds. It wasn’t just decoration—it lifted morale and became a calling card. People knew, “That’s our crew building this site.” The impact went beyond the jobsite. Local papers covered the story, and in one town, residents voted to keep the flag, later installing a permanent flagpole due to the positive influence. Today, some of our foremen continue this tradition. You won’t see it everywhere, but when you spot a flag flying 60 feet high in a substation, it’s a clear sign of NorthStar pride and presence. Traditions like this speak to who we are and the impact we make.
