Orange County Library System reposted this
It was an honor and a pleasure to join the Orange County Library System for their annual Staff Development Day! OCLS is an award-winning library network serving 1.5 million residents across 14 locations in Orange County, Florida — with more branches preparing to open. This year’s event brought together about 480 staff members, possibly a record as the system continues to grow! My session, “Quiet Doesn’t Mean Silent: Success Strategies for the Introverted Leader,” explored how introverts can lead effectively while protecting their energy and maintaining authentic relationships. It’s not every day you get to greet an audience by saying, “I stand before you today as a proud introvert.” But it was deeply satisfying to do so with such a welcoming group. The room included mostly introverts, a healthy number of ambiverts, and even a couple of extroverts who were warmly welcomed into our exclusive club. We had some lively conversations about: • The challenges introverts face in collaborative environments • How to navigate visibility and voice without burnout • Practical strategies for building trust and influence as an introverted leader My takeaway: Introverts have a lot to offer—but you may not see it until you create space where everyone feels safe, noticed, and heard. Gratitude to Yvonne Hartley SHRM-SCP, PHR, Colleen Hooks, and the entire OCLS HR team for putting on such a great event and for the opportunity to learn with you!
