  • On Tuesday, our Atlanta studio hosted Atlanta Way 2.0’s Architects’ Round Table with City of Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. The event brought together a diverse group of architects, planners, urban designers, preservationists, engineers, professors, and developers for a wide-ranging discussion about the city’s growth. Moderated by Maria Saporta and Melody L. Harclerode FAIA, MBA, LEED AP, the session examined how design decisions—past and present—shape Atlanta’s neighborhoods and public life. Mayor Dickens spoke about the city’s trajectory and the collective responsibility to design with intention. Thanks to Atlanta Way 2.0 for holding the conversation in our space!

Efficiency gets you through the terminal. Story keeps you coming back. The most memorable airports balance both, pairing seamless operations with environments that reflect local culture, inspire connection, and remind travelers where they are in the world. That vision guided the design of Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s Concourse A Expansion, where our aviation team, in collaboration with C DESIGN, led Phases 1 and 2 to create a sense of place rooted in Charlotte’s identity. Locally inspired details—storytelling graphics, salvaged components from retired aircraft, and motion-sensor installations—bring the experience of flight to life. “Inspired by the role North Carolina played in the history of aviation, we were struck by the realization that the Concourse A Phase 1 and 2 projects are separated by a distance almost exactly equal to the Wright Brothers’ historic first flight,” says Senior Project Architect Liz Richardson. “It was only fitting that we used this as the inspiration to activate the space connecting the two expansions.” In celebration of #AviationHistoryMonth, explore how CLT’s Concourse A redefines what it means to design for the passenger. • A major step forward for mobility in Greater Montreal! The Deux-Montagnes segment of the Réseau Express Métropolitan (REM) is now open, adding 19 stations and 33 kilometers to this major transportation network. In collaboration with our consortium partners Lemay and Bisson Fortin, we created a consistent station expression from a series of modular components that could be arranged to respond to the unique conditions of each site. The color palette and material selections reflect the local landscape with enough variation to give each stop its own identity—but all share the REM’s distinct architectural language. Our team led the design of 3 of the stations: Côte-de-Liesse, Du Ruisseau, and Canora. Following the South Shore segment opening in 2023, this new segment marks another essential step in one of Canada’s most significant transit projects. Congratulations to everyone involved in this collective effort! Featured Photos: 1-2. Côte-de-Liesse 3-4. Ville-de-Mont-Royal 5-6. • Achieving lower-carbon buildings has become faster, more accurate, and more accessible than ever before. Developed collaboratively by leading think tanks, scientists, architects, and designers, these digital platforms are helping project teams design, measure, and deliver higher-performing environments. 𝐄𝐂3: Developed with Building Transparency, the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator enables benchmarking, assessment, and reduction of supply chain emissions from construction materials. EC3 makes it easy to compare products’ environmental impacts so project teams can make smarter, lower-carbon choices. 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲𝐂𝐀𝐓: The Tally Climate Action Tool integrates Tally, which analyzes whole-building lifecycle impacts from BIM models, with EC3’s environmental product declaration database. This creates one open-access resource. tallyCAT syncs with common design software, helping designers and contractors evaluate materials and track embodied carbon in real time. 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐄𝐃: The Simulation Platform for Energy-Efficient Design, developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is a web- and cloud-based energy modeling tool. SPEED enables design teams to assess daylighting, energy use, and operational carbon performance across thousands of models, making it easier to identify and prioritize high-performance solutions.
