As philanthropic organizations operating on the unceded territories of the Lisjan Ohlone people, we have an opportunity—and responsibility—to move beyond acknowledgment toward meaningful action. In collaboration with Sogorea Te Land Trust, Bay Area Asset Funders Network and the East Bay Community Foundation, we have released a joint statement highlighting how institutions can meaningfully support Indigenous-led efforts through Shuumi Land Tax. Healing starts with community, and this Native American Heritage Month, we lift up SFF grantee Friendship House Association of American Indians. The organization creates space for Native families to reconnect with culture, find wellness, build connections, and heal through their Village SF Wellness Center. Scheduled to open in 2026, the center represents a transformative, Native-led model of holistic healing, featuring substance use treatment, transitional housing, comprehensive health services, cultural revitalization programs, youth and elder programs, and intertribal community support. The Village SF will serve over 7,000 community members each year.
