The South Carolina Department of Public Health celebrated the Great American Smokeout (GASO) this week by amplifying awareness about the impact that smoking has on diabetes. The USC Patient Engagement Studio is seeking volunteers to help with developing research and policies for maternal health in South Carolina. Ideal candidates are South Carolina residents ages 18 and older who have given birth in the last 18 months and/or are heavily involved in the care of an infant(s). Please note this is not an application for research subjects, but for individuals who are interested in participating at a consultant level. Time commitment will be four (4) meetings per year and you will be compensated for your time. It’s National Injury Prevention Day! Did you know that unintentional injuries/accidents are the leading cause of death for South Carolinians ages 1-44? Injuries, whether intentional or unintentional, are preventable. The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) is working to expand and strengthen its long-standing relationship with faith-based organizations across the state and is asking faith leaders to provide input about the needs of their organizations and communities. By completing a short survey, faith groups can help DPH understand their needs and how they and the agency can better collaborate to improve the health of everyone in South Carolina. The effort is part of an initiative called Healthy Faith Partnerships, which was created in response to DPH Interim Director Edward Simmer’s goal of having the agency reach every faith-based organization in South Carolina.
