Many people worry about outdoor air pollution. A new study by researchers at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, University of Oklahoma, and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health shows there may also be a significant risk inside our homes. The study reveals that gas and propane stoves can expose millions of Americans to levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) pollution comparable to — or even exceeding — what they breathe outdoors. NO₂ is linked to asthma, cardiovascular disease, and other serious health impacts. The study finds: - Households using gas for cooking often experience double the indoor exposure compared to electric-cooking homes. - Transitioning from gas to electric could cut national NO₂ exposure by more than 50%.
