🎉 Yesterday was a milestone moment as Denver Health celebrated the grand opening of the radiology suite at our Lowry Family Health Center! The new suite is now the largest and most comprehensive among those in our 10 community health centers, offering on-site radiology services and improved access to care for patients in Denver’s east metro communities. “No longer will patients need to travel across town for imaging. Now, they can do so closer to home.” CEO Donna Lynne said. Nearing completion, the Center for Brain Health in San Antonio brings investigators and patient care specialists together to #advanceresearch and provide #innovativecare for patients with movement disorders and neurodegenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer’s and ALS. Advanced imaging capabilities within the Center for Brain Health provide enhanced diagnostic and research capabilities. Once open, the Center will include both a PET/CT to evaluate brain activity and a high-resolution 7T MRI for detailed research on the brain’s anatomy and function. Initially, a 3T MRI was deemed appropriate for brain health imaging research. However, the university decided to change to a 7T unit to support diagnostic care for all university patients. With its’ enhanced resolution, the 7T magnet’s physical size presented many challenges for the planning and design of the center, beyond a standard MRI installation. The location of the equipment within the building required careful consideration for not only the installation but also to limit the effects of magnetic and RF interference on adjacent spaces and building occupants. Due to the diameter of the magnet, the structure had to be recessed and fortified to handle the extra weight. The facility is located within the heart of the UTHealth San Antonio campus. It is a densely packed urban location with limited crane access and almost no area for staging. The building was designed with removable exterior wall panels to allow for the placement and eventual replacement of the equipment. Once operational, the imaging suite within the Brain Health Center will provide the very best capabilities for both research and diagnostic patient care in San Antonio.
