🎉 Celebrating 2025 Leadership New Mexico Core Program Graduates!🎓 We’re proud to spotlight Cynthia Johnson-Shetter, Director of the Los Lunas Public Library and its branch, the Museum of Heritage & Arts, for her incredible 29-year journey in service to New Mexico communities. What began as volunteering for story hour has grown into a remarkable career. Cynthia earned her associate’s in Library Science from Doña Ana Community College, a BA in General Studies from New Mexico State University, and a Master’s in Library & Information Science from the University of North Texas. She has been a champion for public libraries statewide, advocating for critical state and federal funding through her service on the New Mexico Library Association Legislation Committee. She has served three terms as President of the New Mexico Municipal League of Librarians Association, her third term beginning in August 2024. Appointed by both Governor Susana Martinez and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Cynthia continues to serve on the New Mexico State Library Commission. She also recently joined the Amigos Library Services board and the Osteoporosis Foundation of New Mexico. A dedicated historian and author, she sits on both the Historical Society of New Mexico and Valencia County Historical Society boards. In 2023, she coauthored and self-published "Daniel D. Fernandez: The Man Behind the Honor." United Way of North Central New Mexico is partnering with the Village of Los Lunas to support recovery efforts in the aftermath of the Desert Willow Complex Fire that destroyed 12 homes and impacted families across Valencia County. “This is absolutely devastating for our community,” said Charles Griego, Mayor of the Village of Los Lunas. “We’ve seen countless families — many with young children — lose everything in a matter of moments. But as heartbreaking as this is, I’ve also been deeply moved by the outpouring of support from our business community. I’ve received many calls from local business owners and leaders asking how they can help. For those who are able, I encourage them to donate through United Way to support ongoing fire recovery efforts. Our community is hurting, but together, we can help our neighbors begin to rebuild.” All funds raised will go toward helping residents rebuild and recover.
