About us

THE YMCA OF DANE COUNTY is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities. Every day our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good. With a focus on YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, HEALTHY LIVING and SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, strengthening communities is our cause. At the Y, we believe that lasting personal and social change happens when we all work together. Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to be healthy, confident, connected and secure. At the Y, no child, family or adult is turned away for the inability to pay. We recognize that for communities to succeed, everyone must be given the opportunity to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.

  • Thank you, Jeff Tubbs, for celebrating the spirit behind our Beefsteak event. Your energy helped make the night special and we appreciate the way you champion this community. The Beefsteak brings people together for a good cause, good conversation, and a whole lot of fun. We are grateful for everyone who joined us to support the Y’s mission of strengthening our community. #YMCAofDaneCounty #CommunityBuildingCommunity

Last week I was thrilled to attend the 4th Annual YMCA of Dane County Beefsteak event at Johnny Delmonico's. You may not be familiar with a Beefsteak event, well, it is a wonderful steak, salmon, potato, and asparagus dinner served with no plates, utensils, or napkins.  Yup, you eat the entire meal with your fingers. We all received aprons to wipe off our messy hands. One of the core values of the Y is FUN – and I'll tell you, mission accomplished! It was a blast and we got to support the YMCA – win, win. Thanks YMCA of Dane County for all you do to make this community stronger!

  • Inspiration Over Lunch with “The Pink Pilot” ✈️ Today, the YMCA of Dane County had the pleasure of welcoming Diane Ballweg, affectionately known as The Pink Pilot and owner of Endres Manufacturing Company, to share stories from her book "Into the Wind, Above the Clouds: Love at First Flight!" Diane captivated a full house over lunch with tales of adventure and reflection, encouraging us all to keep striving toward our goals, seek new destinations, and recognize the people who have helped shape who we are today. Her message beautifully echoed the Y’s mission of helping every person reach new heights, physically, mentally, and socially. Thank you, Diane, for reminding us that when we look up and look ahead, there is always more to explore. #YMCA #CommunityBuildingCommunity #ThePinkPilot #Inspiration #LifelongLearning

  • Mentorship Needs Moments. We’re Proud to Provide the Space. Through our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County, the YMCA is proud to offer free day passes for Bigs and Littles, giving them a safe, welcoming place to spend quality time together and build meaningful connections. Whether it’s swimming, shooting hoops, trying out a new sport, or playing games, these shared experiences create positive, low-pressure opportunities for Bigs and Littles to get to know each other and build trust. At the YMCA, we believe every child deserves consistent, caring relationships, and we’re committed to providing spaces where those relationships can thrive. Thank you to Big Brothers Big Sisters for the incredible work you do to ignite potential in youth across Dane County and to Sandy Morales for her leadership of their impressive team. We’re honored to support your mission. • 100 Kids. Fully Funded Swim Safety Scholarships. Powered by the YMCA. This summer, the YMCA of Dane County is providing 100 children from Reach Dane with full scholarships to participate in our Safety Around Water program, a life-saving initiative that teaches essential skills to stay safe in and around water. Each child will receive eight lessons designed to: Teach basic swimming and floating techniques Instill confidence and safety habits Help them know what to do if someone else is in trouble in the water Reach Dane, a trusted nonprofit partner serving children and families across Dane and Green Counties, helped connect these students to this opportunity. The YMCA of Dane County is covering the full cost of instruction, made possible through donor support and our commitment to ensuring all children have access to life-saving programs, regardless of their family’s income. That’s why we’re investing in programs like this. • We are honored to be recognized as a Community Impact Hero by the American Red Cross – Wisconsin Region at the recent Meet the Heroes reception. The award, presented by Jerie Olson and sponsored by National Guardian Life Insurance Company, highlighted the YMCA’s role in supporting emergency shelter efforts for families displaced by a fire in the City of Fitchburg - Wisconsin. In collaboration with the American Red Cross Cross, we quickly mobilized to provide a safe space for those affected. It is a testament to how nonprofit partnerships can strengthen our community when it’s needed most. We are grateful to the Red Cross for this recognition, to Findorff for sponsoring the event, and to all the sponsors who made the evening possible. It was a privilege to be celebrated alongside these outstanding honorees: Epic Employees – From the Heart, Blood Heroes (sponsored by HOOPER) Milton Library Red Cross Club – Youth and Young Adult Hero (sponsored by Culver's Restaurants) Judy Giacomino – Volunteer Hero (sponsored by Findorff) Angie Fuller – Military Hero (sponsored by Inventure Capital) Ruth Davis – Disaster Relief Hero (sponsored by Paul Davis Restoration) To learn more about why we were honored and to see the story behind the award, watch the short video below. #RedCrossHeroes #YMCA #CommunityImpact #DaneCounty #NonprofitLeadership #EmergencyResponse #MeetTheHeroes #WisconsinYMCA
