About us

YouTube is a team-oriented, creative workplace where every single employee has a voice in the choices we make and the features we implement. We work together in small teams to design, develop, and roll out key features and products in very short time frames. Which means something you write today could be seen by millions of viewers tomorrow. And even though we’re a part of Google and enjoy all of the corporate perks, it still feels like you’re working at a startup. YouTube is headquartered in San Bruno, California, 12 miles south of San Francisco. We also have many job openings in Mountain View, and across the globe

YouTube is where teens come to watch what they love. That’s why we’ve spent a decade building tailored products for our youngest viewers: from the launch of the YouTube Kids app in 2015, to a supervised experience for pre-teens in 2021, to the expansion of built-in protections to more U.S. teens last summer. When I talk to parents and experts about what they want from platforms like YouTube, they tend to focus on three areas: controls that teach kids how to consume responsibly, content that’s age-appropriate, and the right experience for every age. Today we’re sharing a few updates to help parents tailor their family’s YouTube experience, especially for teens. They’ll soon be able to: - Set the amount of time their teens spend scrolling Shorts (including to zero, which is an industry-first) - Set custom Take a Break and Bedtime reminders for supervised accounts  - More seamlessly create new kid accounts and switch between them in the mobile app We’ve also developed new principles and a creator guide to ensure our platform elevates fun, helpful and enriching content in partnership with the Center for Scholars & Storytellers at UCLA, the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children's Hospital, the American Psychological Association and other global organizations. We’ve spent over a decade building thoughtful products for our youngest viewers, focusing on tools that give kids and teens the freedom to safely explore on YouTube, while putting parents in control of making the right technology choices for their family. Today, we’re sharing a few updates to our controls and content principles that will help parents tailor their family’s YouTube experience even more. Parents will soon be able to: 📱 Create a new kid account and easily switch between accounts in the mobile app depending on who’s watching, making it easier to ensure everyone is in the right viewing experience, with the right content settings and recommendations. ⏰Set a timer for the amount of time spent scrolling Shorts – including setting the timer to zero. 😴 Set custom bedtime and break reminders for their kid or teen, building on the existing default-on wellbeing protections for teens. We’re also launching new principles and a creator guide to ensure our platform elevates fun, helpful and enriching content for teens. This guide is developed in partnership with our Youth Advisory Committee, the Center for Scholars & Storytellers at UCLA, and supported by global experts from the American Psychological Association, the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital, and other global organizations. It’s been an incredible year celebrating YouTube’s 20th birthday 🎂▶️ Looking back at our milestone year, here are some of the biggest highlights: 🎉 Our creators took over the biggest stages in the world, leading a first-of-its-kind flag football game at Super Bowl LIX and bringing fans closer to the music than ever before at Coachella (thanks to new innovative features like Watch With). 📺 At Brandcast, we celebrated YouTube’s enduring position as the #1 streamer in the US. What’s more: the number of channels earning six figures or more in revenue specifically from TV screens is up over 45% year-over-year. 🎬 At Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, we shared the stage with creators who are flipping formats and building their own media empires. As the new startups of Hollywood, these creators are opening up production studios and hiring teams of writers, producers, and directors to take their storytelling to new heights. 🎨 At #MadeOnYouTube, we announced we’ve paid over $100 billion to creators, artists, and media companies over the last four years alone. And we put powerful AI tools directly into the hands of creators to help them dream even bigger. There were so many moments in between…from iShowSpeed’s surprise visit to YouTube HQ, to finally getting to try Sean Evans's hot wings (although I might try to forget that one). Thank you to the YouTube teams, creators, artists, and partners who make our bets a reality every single day. Here's to the next 20 years of shaping culture together.

Thank you Sam Jacobs for the opportunity to talk about YouTube's place in the media landscape at TIME's #AYearinTIME event in NYC. We covered a lot of ground, but here are a few highlights from our conversation: 🎥 We don't program the content. We build the stage. Our job is to empower our amazing creators who set the cultural zeitgeist every single day. Whether they’re producing a 15-second Short or a 15-hour livestream, our goal is simply to connect them with a global audience. 📺 The definition of TV has changed, as the line between digital video and traditional television has dissolved. YouTube has been # 1 in streaming watchtime in the U.S. for more than two years. When a young person turns on the TV, they are increasingly turning on YouTube. 🌟 The most powerful creator is the one starting today. That creator has infinite possibilities to invent formats we haven't even thought of yet. We serve creators with millions of subscribers, but we are just as dedicated to serving the person who hit the upload button for the very first time today.
