In August 2009 I travelled to Albania for one month to work with a group of differently abled adults. This group traditionally lives in a group home near Shkoder, Albania; however, every August a local church provides a mountain estate so the residents may take a holiday. This holiday coincides with the traditional Albanian holiday, so the residents are cared for by volunteers and nuns during this time. It was a joy to work with this group for an entire month.

    Arts and Culture

I spent four years as a regular volunteer for VSA Arts (Very Special Arts). I served as a volunteer member of a community choir for differently abled adults. The group sang, practiced drum skills, and danced once a week and performed in public approximately six times a year. This was one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career.

    Poverty Alleviation

As a member of Engineers Without Borders I travelled to Guatemala to assist in the building of a school. Our team of 20 spent two weeks in the Guatemalan mountains building a school that had been designed by others. We then travelled to a different site where we completed data collection efforts for a bridge and drainage system to be built by a team in the upcoming year.
