With the introduction of ChatGPT we are seeing a lot of American spelling in CV's, cover letters and even emails. Ask ChatGPT to use UK or NZ spelling as when we see "optimize" instead of "optimise" we can be sure that AI wrote it. AI also uses phrases like "proven track record" or "instrumental in..." which is another giveaway when we're looking at CV's. AI can be a great help in your writing, especially if English is your second language, but in order to stand out as a candidate, we like to read your voice and get a feel for you and your experience in what you're sending us. (This hasn't been written using AI 😂)

Last week, I had one of those conversations. The candidate asked for feedback. Real feedback. A lot of people think you need perfect Japanese to work in Japan. The truth? It depends on the job. No Japanese Required: Some IT, engineering, and global companies. If you have a specialized skill, you can get by with just English. Conversational Japanese (N3-N2): Sales, marketing, HR, and most office jobs. You’ll need to read emails and sit in meetings, but you don’t have to be perfect. Business Japanese (N2-N1): Jobs in finance, consulting, law, and traditional companies. If your job involves clients, expect to work in full Japanese. So do you need Japanese to work here? Not always. But even basic Japanese gives you a massive advantage.
