Yesterday, Sightline Payments Head of Risk Management and Compliance, Christopher Guerra, spoke at the American Gaming Association's 10th Annual Anti-Money Laundering Summit. Christhopher was joined on the panel by Gregory Lisa at Hogan Lovells, David Iraola at Capital One, and Alma M. Angotti.   As the leader at the intersection of fintech and gaming, Christopher shared some key learnings in how Sightline has adapted to face the modern fraud environment and evolving anti-money laundering space, including:   -Data is king – it is how you operationalize any compliance team, it is how you build effective fraud tools, and it is how you understand the intersection of fraud and money laundering activity. -The tools a modern organization uses to fight fraud and money laundering are similar and communication between those two sides of an organization is paramount in having them work together to prevent against fraud and money laundering. -As noted in previous FinCEN enforcement efforts, casinos collect loads of data on their customers but rarely communicate those with their AML compliance team to track source of funds or other suspicious activities. -Data validation and model validation need to be incorporated into how you are going to ingest fraud tools and better track suspicious behavior.

🚨 The Beneficial Ownership Reporting (BOI) is back in action! New deadline is March 21, 2025, for most entities. The Corporate Transparency Act is now in effect after the injunction was lifted on Feb 17. Businesses formed before mid-February are subject to the March 21 deadline. New businesses in 2025 must meet a 30-day filing deadline. The constitutionality of the Act is being challenged in courts, and Congress is considering bills that could affect it.
