Our client is expanding with an exciting, newly acquired and rapidly growing book of business. We are seeking a skilled Excess Casualty Underwriter to join our team and help drive profitable growth in the commercial real estate sector, with a focus on habitational risks.
Position Overview
The Excess Casualty Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating, pricing, and underwriting excess casualty accounts across multifamily, residential, and mixed-use property portfolios. This role requires 5–10 years of underwriting experience, strong technical expertise, and the ability to build and sustain broker relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Underwrite excess casualty risks for commercial real estate habitational accounts.
Analyze exposure data, loss history, and risk characteristics to determine pricing and coverage terms.
Negotiate terms and conditions within authority levels to achieve profitable growth.
Partner with brokers and clients to support new business and renewals.
Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and risk control teams to ensure sound underwriting decisions.
Monitor portfolio performance and contribute to underwriting strategy for the growing book.
Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive market conditions.
Qualifications
5–10 years of underwriting experience in excess casualty, with a focus on commercial real estate habitational risks.
Strong technical knowledge of liability exposures, coverage structures, and risk transfer mechanisms.
Proven ability to analyze complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
Established broker relationships and ability to build new partnerships.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk management, or related field preferred.
