The Director of Institutional Partnerships is an integral part of the Foundation team, that will be responsible for overseeing all foundation, government, and corporate sponsorship, and other institutional funding for Madison Square Boys & Girls Club. A key member of the Foundation’s senior staff, the Director works cross-departmentally to identify opportunities and meet funding needs. In partnership with the Executive Director, the Director sets annual institutional giving goals and collaborates with senior leaders to manage and grow existing grants, identify and pursue new funding opportunities, and build the institutional giving portfolio.
The Director will be a driving force behind our growth, accessing corporate and foundation prospects, helping them understand how their investment in our mission offers mutual value to our Club members and their stakeholders. You will know how to navigate decision-makers, be fluent in connecting our mission to institutional priorities, building trust with high-level stakeholders, and crafting compelling narratives that move partners to act, aligning strategy with vision. Whether you are opening new doors or managing key volunteers, you are as comfortable networking as behind a keyboard. You will work closely with the Individual Giving and Communications team to drive measurable outcomes for a mission that matters.
The Director of Institutional Partnerships will report to the Executive Director and will help drive accountability for the team’s plan to engage the corporate and foundation community across all Madison donor acquisition models (special event sponsorships, grants, community and volunteer engagement, etc.). The successful candidate has experience working within nonprofit development or business development, possesses exceptional attention to detail, and has a desire to help build and strengthen key external relationships across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio/Revenue Generation
Partner with the team to create and execute a multi-year institutional giving strategy for general operating, programmatic, capital initiatives, and other special projects
Manage a robust portfolio of institutional donors, maintaining strong relationship and providing regular communication and stewardship.
Oversee prospect research to identify potential institutional funding opportunities aligned with Madison’s strategic priorities
Collaborate closely with Madison’s leadership to align institutional fundraising efforts with organizational goals
Track and analyze funding trends, institutional giving metrics, and potential new funding sources
Relationship Management
Leverage the organization’s close relationships and internal stakeholders for strategic and warm connectivity to opportunities, guiding the Board in optimizing their networks for our Club members’ benefit
Secure opportunities to pitch to senior decision-makers at major corporations and foundations
Create compelling, tailored proposals and sponsorship packages
Cultivate long-term, mission-aligned relationships with external stakeholders
Manage and grow a portfolio of high-value institutional partners
Grants & Reporting & Collaboration
Oversee the full grant lifecycle: research, proposal development, compliance and reporting, with accurate forecasting and performance reporting
Coordinate and oversee volunteer engagement opportunities
Collaborate with team to build donor materials, impact reports & annual report
Work closely with the Donor Communications Coordinator to ensure communications strategy aligns with institutional engagement opportunities
Required Qualifications
A high-capacity fundraiser and strategist with 5-10+ years of progressive development experience
A skilled relationship-builder who can connect with high-level stakeholders and navigate complex organizations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with superior attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Experience in fast-paced, mission-focused nonprofit environments
Proficiency with donor databases (Raiser’s Edge or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong research and analytical skills
Flexibility to attend evening events and perform physical tasks as needed
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Requirements/Other
Bachelor’s degree required; experience in corporate philanthropic and non-profit sectors a strong plus
Candidates must complete criminal clearance (fingerprinting), submit official transcripts, and pass TB screening
Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $110,000-$120,000
