🎄 Last week, we were delighted to host a Christmas light switch-on event in Liscard as we helped bring the festive magic to the town! ✨
With the cost-of-living crisis continuing to bite, councils across the UK have faced tough decisions to save money - and for many, that’s meant scaling back or cancelling Christmas light displays and switch-on events altogether. In fact, research shows 73% of people feel decorations have been reduced in their town.
With Liscard on the Wirral one such town, we stepped in to give the town a much-needed festive makeover. We donated a 30ft Christmas tree and decorations, filled the streets with choir music - and what’s more, Natasha Hamilton from Atomic Kitten added the finishing touch by switching on the lights and treating everyone to a fantastic performance! 🎄🎤

As they found out, that list card hasn't had a Christmas tree for quite a few years, so they've come to the rescue. They've roped me in and we are bringing the festive cheer. One of the starting points of Christmas is going into your local High Street. I'm watching the Christmas lights be turned on and it's really unfair that some people aren't getting the opportunity to do that. So the fact that ASD has been able to come to this card, provide this beautiful tree and get me involved, it's just really exciting. Also wanted to support this card this year because we're historically we've been known for not being the most Christmassy town in the UK. Well with everybody suffering through the cost of living crisis this year, they just felt they were gonna bring us that little bit of sparkle. Tonight's we've got choir singing, we've got music, we've got food and we've got the lighting ceremony of the tree. Events like tonight are really important because it brings everyone together and it makes everyone really happy. Lots of people have challenges in their life and it's fantastic to give people a reason to get out and mix with other people and get involved in the community in a positive spirit. One of my first ever performances was right here in Liscard as a young girl, so to come back all these years later after all the success I've had with Atomic Kitten feels really special.
