How to move beyond generic sales outreach and connect with customers

Too much sales outbounding still starts with the same lines:  ☑️ “Just checking in.”  ☑️ “Hope you're doing well.”  ☑️ “We help companies like yours…” The future of selling is rooted in real connection, not automation. Every touchpoint is a chance to differentiate or disappear. Personalization is more than using a name or company, it’s about showing you’ve done the work to understand what matters. That’s how conversations start. Sellers win when they treat outreach as a conversation, not a template. Revenue is a team sport — and that starts with every seller showing up with empathy, insight, and intent. Let’s raise the bar. The buyer deserves it. So does your pipeline.

My husband is a sales leader, and he showed me his inbox full of cold emails titled 'Quick Question,' 'Quick Follow-Up,' and 'Quick Note.' It taught me that if I want to stand out, avoid using 'quick' in the subject line and take the more human approach.

I’m happy to see this subject matter more and more on here. If you are trying to automate everything in your sales role, you are missing the mark. Use tools to get information/research faster with the purpose of connecting with and delivering to your customers. That’s where you go deep to solve problems. When it’s about what’s in it for them, not what’s in it for you!

I'd like to record a short 60-second video with their face in the main view and then send a GIF or send a voice note using LinkedIn messaging. Good to stand out.

Spot on, Kevin - the future of outbound is warmbound (leveraging knowledge, insights, connections, network) and putting it to the test! Make the deposits, and then and only then can you make a withdrawal ~.

It’s because they are afraid to ask for the sale. Afraid to see if the deal is dead or delayed. So this is a half assed attempt to be passive, “not selling” 🙄

Absolutely spot on. The real wins in sales come from genuine connection, not copy-paste templates. Buyers can feel the difference instantly.

Insightful, thank you Kevin

💯 This brings to mind an awesome sales leader/voice who has long talked about SMYKM (Show Me You Know Me) - Samantha McKenna
