Hello From Valeo: February Edition

What are we most excited about?

In just a few weeks, we’ll be attending SXSW25! 🥳 

Why, you ask? Well, because we believe that your car is the ultimate destination and that in-car experiences are the future. For example, our PanoVision technology transforms in-car entertainment with a seamless, windscreen-reflected display. Paired with the Interior Monitoring System, it enables video conferencing and gesture-controlled gaming. How fun does that sound?!

What's new in the automotive industry?

AI is the talk of the town right now. A case in point: Stellantis and Mistral AI just announced that they are teaming up to use AI to help accelerate efficiency, adaptability, and customer-focused innovation.

Humble brag alert: We at Valeo have been looking into AI for a while now, integrating the first neural networks into our perception systems from 2012. Since 2017, for example, our artificial intelligence research center Valeo.ai has been at the forefront of AI research in the automotive industry, especially in the fields of assisted and autonomous driving. 

In fact, the work of our AI researchers was selected in the international call for expressions of interest launched by the Direction Générale des Entreprises in France, as part of the AI Action Summit in Paris a few weeks ago. Their work aims to reduce costs of manual annotation and improve efficiency in AI development for autonomous driving.

Cool factoid of the day:

Did you know that the word “car” is derived from the Latin word ‘Carrum’ which means “two-wheeled Celtic war chariot?” Does anyone know what the latin word for electric vehicle possibly could be? 😂

The number of the day: 30000000

That’s right: 30 million is the number of smart front cameras we’ve produced! 🥳 

We’re a world leader in the production of front cameras, a technology that is critical to road safety. The smart front camera monitors the traffic ahead, enabling the car to maintain a safe and legal speed, to stay in its lane, to keep its distance with vehicles ahead, and to react to emergencies. It also detects and classifies objects such as vehicles, trucks, pedestrians, cyclists, motorbikes in order to alert the driver and prevent collision by braking the vehicle automatically. Isn’t that just neat?
