Our 2025 World Energy Review
Welcome to “Energy of Today & Tomorrow”: your go-to guide to the challenges and opportunities in the energy world.
In this issue, we take a closer look at the structure and themes of the 2025 World Energy Review, our platform for reflecting and highlighting the ongoing energy transition process.
What is the World Energy Review
Now in its 24th edition, the World Energy Review is our annual statistical report that monitors the evolution of the global energy system, providing a broad and interconnected view of global energy dynamics.
Structured in two modules, the WER combines clarity and depth. The first, now available, offers an up-to-date snapshot of four sectors: oil, natural gas, renewables and critical minerals.
2025 WER - Module I: a first look at today’s global energy trends
The first release of the 2025 World Energy Review provides an initial update with the latest available data and insights across the following areas:
Oil
The report presents a comprehensive overview of global oil production, refining capacity, consumption and international trade flows, helping to contextualise its role in the energy system.
Natural gas
Gas remains a pivotal element of the energy mix. This section details production, trade flows and LNG, illustrating how infrastructure and geography continue to shape availability and consumption.
Renewables
The review highlights the expansion of solar PV and wind with data on installed capacity and electricity generation, including insights on biofuels production and their contribution to the energy industry.

Critical minerals
The report provides an overview of mineral production, trade flows and demand from low-carbon technologies, underscoring the strategic role of materials such as copper, lithium, cobalt and rare earths in the energy transition.
2025 WER - Module II: coming October 2025
The second release of the 2025 World Energy Review, scheduled for October, will provide a more comprehensive picture of the global energy system, expanding the scope of the report with additional updates and cross-cutting topics.
Together, the two modules will offer a complete and integrated view of how energy is produced, used and transformed around the world.
