Every “quick idea” comes with real tradeoffs: - Time - Headspace - Budget - Execution risk So we don’t chase shiny objects. We look at where the funnel is breaking. We prioritize what actually drives pipeline. We execute with intention. The best early-stage marketing isn’t about doing everything. It’s about doing less, better, and knowing exactly why you’re doing it. Because momentum doesn’t come from motion. It comes from focus.

The 7 Lies we (the Agencies) Tell ourselves “We’re consumer-first.” → Until the client says “I don’t like that.” “We love data.” → As long as it confirms our idea. “We care about craft.” → Until there’s a 2-day deadline. “We’re collaborative.” → But don’t touch my deck. “We want innovation.” → But give me three safe options. “We value strategy.” → Until it slows down production. “We make meaningful work.” → But most of our budget goes to banners. If your blog posts aren’t bringing in leads, they’re just expensive noise. Here’s how we fixed that and delivered more revenue with less content. Recently a client proudly showed me their full content calendar. A seemingly impressive 32 blog posts all lined up and ready to be published. 🎯 Topics on point. 🎯Weekly publishing schedule nailed. 🎯SEO checklists for days. It looked impressive on paper. I asked them if I could run some analytics on their previous blogs. ❌ Low traffic ❌ No conversions ❌ A hefty chunk of their monthly marketing budget going nowhere They argued their competitors were publishing blogs consistently, so they needed to do the same. I suggested this instead: 🔹Build 5 high-intent pages 🔹Each one matched to a real buyer question 🔹Each one written to convert, not just rank Traffic dipped slightly. But conversions went up. Businesses waste £1000s of pounds/dollars a year on ineffective / poor quality link building. With the NET average cost of a link between £150-£300 it's VERY quick and easy to spend tens of thousands of £ in the pursuit of rankings. The reality is GOOD LINKS aren't links with HIGH DR / UR / DA / TF. Good links by definition are: > Links from domains that do not have significant OUTBOUND link ratios > Links from content that's actually GOOD content and not dross from cheap writers or AI generated content > Links from good content where the URL is indexed and where there is LIKELY to be traffic > Links from content / a domain that has purposement, establishment and doesn't have any history of abuse But GOOD LINKS do not always need to be: 1. From content thats topically aligned / contextual 2. From pages that are well linked internally on the linking domain 3. Pages with low outbound links The PROBLEM in SEO is: 1. It's SIGNIFICANTLY easier to buy links than it is to go through the effort of "earning them" 2. The industry is built on smoke and mirrors with DR/DA being flung around as a valuation model for link pricing (with your man in the middle costs added in) 3. The demand for links has created an EXPLOSION in link builders, link platforms and so forth And of course Whereever there is DEMAND for something The price NATURALLY goes up So, I've gotten SO FED UP of the shit out there I am going to make an ENTIRE SERIES of videos detailing link analysis inside out. The BETTER ARMED people are with knowledge, the LESS LIKELY they are to end up wasting money on links from CRAPPY guest post site lists or niche edit injections on articles written by a random editor who has all the E-E-A-T of a foodless buffet. I’ve been thinking a lot about the agency construct. It is changing so fast. Like…warp speed. Anyone running an agency is probably having the daily discussion about AI and how we maintain quality delivery coupled with client expecations on speed. Anyhow - the point of this post isn’t about the obvious evolution of what AI will bring to our industry. But, simply focusing on what we can do to change ourselves. So here’s to change.
