Equip your teams with knowledge about emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, automation, and big data analytics. Capability = Education + Experience + Coaching + 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. To build capabilities, there is a need to nurture generative behavioural norms, translate 'failure' into 'learning' and minimise fear. 🎓 Education (such as a nursery slope when learning to ski, safe to experiment and communities to share learning, learn together. It is impossible to learn to ski by only sitting in a classroom) ⛷️ Experience: learn by doing (go skiing) 🤗 Coaching: support in the form of coaching, guidance, a sherpa, help to build mastery (a ski instructor) 🏆 a generative, supportive, reinforcing culture. If there is fear, there will be no change. Importantly building capability needs a strong focus on culture, not only skills and process, which is usually the case. If it is only about skills and process, it will fail to meaningfully improve outcomes. There is a need to major on incentives (explicit and implicit) and behavioural norms, i.e. culture. There is a saying from John Shook, the first American to work at Toyota: “It is better to act your way to a new way of thinking than think your way to a new way of acting” I.e. learn by doing. However, this only works if there is a generative, not pathological, culture. If there is fear, order-giving and order-taking, there will be no change. #BVSSH
