From 2026 onwards, these installations will jointly generate enough green electricity to match the equivalent of the total power consumption of Cegeka’s data centers, offices, and electric vehicles in Belgium and the Netherlands. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿? 🤔 That was the challenge Overseas Distribution Company NV (ODC) brought to Encon. As a leading distributor in travel retail across Europe and Africa, ODC connects global suppliers with retailers to bring products to consumers worldwide. This family-owned business led by second- and third-generation leadership, with headquarters in Antwerp and a legal entity in Dubai since 2024, was already taking meaningful sustainability actions. 🎯But they were ready for the next chapter: making those efforts measurable, transparent and strategically anchored. We followed a two step approach. 1️⃣First, through a structured #ESG process, Encon helped define what sustainability meant for ODC. We then translated sustainability into a data-driven and measurable framework that now guides decision-making and long-term growth. The result is a future-proof sustainability model that enhances transparency, manages risks and strengthens responsible entrepreneurship. 2️⃣Second, we guided ODC in developing their first sustainability #report so they could valorise their sustainability efforts and integrate them into contract negotiations. Encon supported ODC in collecting the right data, reporting on their initiatives and telling their brand story at the same time. We offered them a template for reporting that enables them to produce the next reports in a more efficient way, saving costs. From the entirely renewed façade to the refined architectural detailing, every choice was guided by strict sustainability requirements and a shared ambition to push boundaries. Over the past period, Encon had the privilege of guiding the 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗼 project in the heart of the European Quarter in Brussels. A pioneering timber-frame construction that stands as an example of how innovative design and sustainability can reinforce each other. Our role? Full #BREEAM guidance from start to finish, resulting in a BREEAM Excellent Design certificate, including: 🏢Conducting a thorough pre-assessment to align ambitions and define realistic, high-impact sustainability measures. 🏢 Collaborating closely with the architect, client, and technical teams to shape the building according to BREEAM requirements. 🏢 Supporting contractors in correctly implementing the chosen measures on site. 🏢 Completing all checks and documentation to obtain certification. 🏢 Performing substudies such as an #LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) to support the project's sustainable timber-frame approach. We also conducted an #LCC, thermal comfortstudy, dynamic energy simulation and a hydrological study. Monteco is a future-ready building that proves sustainable construction can be practical, scalable and aesthetically outstanding. Based in the Netherlands, Van Gelder Groente & Fruit is a leading supplier of fresh fruits and vegetables to hospitality, wholesale, institutions and the foodservice sector. They combine quality and innovation to provide customers with a wide range of fresh and healthy products. Sustainability is not a new topic for them, on the contrairy. But they felt the need to take on a more structured approach for their many initiatives such as CO2 reduction, minimizing food waste and sustainable purchasing. Befimmo is a Belgian real estate company active in the acquisition, management and development of office buildings, meeting centers and coworking spaces in Belgium and Luxembourg. The company creates and manages sustainable workplaces and communities, both in existing buildings and in new, multifunctional projects. They also offer complementary services through their subsidiaries: Silversquare, Sparks, and NABS. Our collaboration aims to ensure continuity, strengthen structure and accelerate impact. Our collaboration consists of two main parts: 1️⃣ 𝗘𝗦𝗚 & 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: our team will step in to provide environmental coordination, ensuring seamless continuity while driving improvements across strategy, engineering and project management. 2️⃣𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: we’ll be supporting their BREEAM certification processes for several projects such as Arts28 and View, covering new build, renovation and existing assets. We will be acting as assessor, expert and study partner. Encon makes itself unique thanks to our efforts in standardising methodologies for BREEAM, WELL and related studies. This structured approach leads to shorter project lead times, lower guidance costs, consistent quality across all dossiers. 👉Standardised specifications, tools and contracts will deliver Befimmo structural cost saving, assurance & increase of revenue. 👉Through flexibility and expertise, by engaging a sustainability project manager, we were also able to rapidly capture the knowledge similar to a long-standing team member. 👉Together with Befimmo, we’ll explore how AI tools can enhance sustainability workflows, accelerate processes and provide deeper insights.
