They’re AI infrastructure built for specific client problems.   Here’s one thing I’ve learned this year: the real AI value isn’t in the first 90 yards. It’s in the final 10.   Everyone’s racing to “use AI” - plugging ChatGPT into workflows, running prompts through Claude, testing the latest model release. That gets you 90% of the way there. But the actual force multiplier, the part that gives you back hours in your day and genuinely changes what’s possible? That lives in the final 10 yards.   The final 10 yards is where you build. Where you customize and layer tools for highly specific use cases. Where you map your actual processes into systems that know your business, your clients, your people.   When I built my own personal AI system, the setup took weeks. Getting those final 10 yards right took months. But once we did, I got two hours back in my day - not from working faster, but from orchestrating entire categories of routine work. Time I now spend with clients and leading my teams instead of managing my calendar or drafting emails. It may seem difficult — even impossible — to transform your workflows this way. But remember that everyone is a relative novice: Even the most advanced generative AI engineer or inventor is only three years ahead of you today. I see teams across Weber Shandwick surprising themselves every week with their innovations.   The limiting factor right now isn’t the technology or the models. It’s whether organizations empower people to actually build with AI rather than just use it. Because users will always hit the 10-yard line and stop. Builders get to the end zone.

The age of scenius—those intense, collaborative creative movements born in dense, specific places and moments—is fading. With fewer cultural hotspots, rising urban costs, solitary work habits, and less socialising, the conditions that once nurtured collective genius have eroded. Instead, we now lean on lone brilliant individuals to shake us from cultural inertia. They exist, but without the proximity of collaborators and competitors to challenge them, their potential risks going unrealised.
