Early thought from the middle of today’s #B2Bignite by B2B Marketing: how much time and budget is being spent on efforts to ‘prove the value of marketing?’ Lots of different bespoke models & individual measures, fascinating stories about how to justify brand spend to the CFO… There’s a big opportunity to standardise on tried & tested professional metrics (god forbid, learning from B2C). Most compelling point of view on this topic I’ve heard today came from Sarah Thomas Ph.D. Her advice was to look at what analysts are saying about your business, how your CFO talks about strategy on investor calls etc. I suspect that aligning to those themes will be worth a lot more than another ‘new’ ROI model. Less time spent looking at which ai tools to adopt, more time spent thinking about how marketing can transform your company’s fortunes in the market.
