We're pleased to welcome Marcus Rogers and Idris Muhammad to Albert Kahn Associates through the Grow Detroit’s Young Talent (GDYT) program! Over the next 8 weeks, Marcus is joining our Mechanical department, and Idris will be working with the Electrical team. Now in its 11th year, the GDYT Program (gdyt.org) by the City of Detroit Government has helped thousands of Detroit youth gain real-world experience, build professional skills, and explore future career paths – laying the groundwork for a stronger, more inclusive workforce. That mission resonates deeply with our belief that design innovation begins by investing in emerging talent. We're proud to support that vision by giving young people meaningful exposure to real project work, mentorship from experienced professionals, and a space to explore their potential in the built environment. Looking forward to a great summer with Marcus and Idris on board! #AlbertKahn #ArchitectofDetroit #DetroitArchitect #GrowDetroitsYoungTalent #CityofDetroit

Shovels hit the ground in downtown Erie this month, marking the start of a project that will transform a long-empty space into a vibrant hub for dining, shopping, working, and connecting. The Erie Downtown Development Corporation ("EDDC") officially broke ground on the Flagship City Commons, an ambitious new public space designed to link people, businesses, and opportunities in the heart of the city. This 24/7 pedestrian arcade will feature restaurants, retail, office, and entertainment spaces, connecting North Park Row and 5th Street while building on the momentum of the Flagship City Food Hall. Albert Kahn is proud to be part of this exciting chapter in Erie’s story. Our team has a long-standing and valued partnership with EDDC, and we are honored to help bring to life a project that will strengthen the downtown core, generate millions in local economic impact, and give residents and visitors a vibrant place to gather for years to come. Representing Albert Kahn at the groundbreaking were Cody Hansen, Architect; Michael A Giovanni, AIA, Director of Design; and Alan Cobb, FAIA, Chairman Emeritus, each of whom was proud to stand alongside our partners and the Erie community as we took this important step forward. #AlbertKahn #AlbertKahnAssociates #ErieDowntown #ErieDowntownDevelopmentCorporation #EDDC

The Detroit Lions and the American Heart Association made the ultimate team this week by coming together on Ford Field to host a Hands-Only CPR training event to help save lives. The Albert Kahn Associates team was proud to take part in this important initiative. Summer is the perfect time to learn CPR, as more people are outdoors, traveling, and staying active. Having this knowledge can make all the difference in a cardiac emergency. We’re grateful to the American Heart Association for teaching these imperative skills, and we can’t wait to start cheering for the Detroit Lions all season long! Go Lions! #AlbertKahnAssociates #DetroitLions #AmericanHeartAssociation #CPRTraining #FordField #HeartHealth

Creativity drives our culture at Albert Kahn Associates – and our 2025 Fellow, Philippe Kame, brings that spirit to everything he does. A University of Michigan student, Philippe was recently selected for the Young Artists Collective, a global platform that uplifts young creatives and encourages bold ideas around today’s most pressing challenges. His work was even featured at the Global Citizen NOW Detroit Summit earlier this summer! We’re proud to have Philippe on the team this season and excited to see where his creativity takes him next. #AlbertKahn #AlbertKahnAssociates #UniversityofMichigan #AlbertKahnSummerInternship #BoundlessCreativity

A big thank you to Steelcase and NBS Commercial Interiors for bringing the ice cream truck to Albert Kahn this week! It’s a tradition we look forward to every summer, and it never disappoints. A sweet break in the middle of the day, a chance to connect, and a reminder of how great it is to work with partners who bring design excellence (and desserts!)

Project Spotlight: Erie Downtown Development The Erie Downtown Development Corporation ("EDDC") has been championing reinvestment in downtown Erie, PA, to connect natural and developed amenities and bring vibrancy back to the city center. Erie has no shortage of character and history – it just needed amenities and opportunities for people to visit and stay in the city. Focusing on three underused blocks, the Albert Kahn team is revitalizing historic buildings while introducing new mixed-use spaces to bring housing, dining, retail, and community life back to the city center. Anchored by a new food hall and market, the development will support local entrepreneurs, celebrate Erie’s architectural character, and create long-awaited urban living options for students, professionals, and families.
