Check out this video from Premier Construction & Design spotlighting Red Arrow Lofts. KDG led architecture, interiors, and historic consulting for this 28-unit conversion of a Corktown landmark built in 1892. Once the Red Arrow Bottling Co., the building now offers modern living that celebrates its history, with exposed heavy timber, restored skylights, and a central atrium reimagined as a resident lounge crossed by a new skybridge. Last Friday KDG hosted the AIA Detroit Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program cohort including Project Architect, Blake Drouillard for an afternoon of learning, connection, and conversation. The visit included a presentation from Principal Robert Kraemer, who shared insights on our approach to adaptive reuse, interdisciplinary design, and firm leadership. A panel discussion followed with voices from Slowtide Studios, Resurget Engineering PC, Quinn Evans, and KDG Principal Brian Rebain, offering valuable perspectives on collaboration and leadership across the AEC industry. Kraemer Design Group is excited to share the proposed design for Shed 4, the latest addition to the Eastern Market Partnership campus. This project both honors the market’s 130+ year legacy and supports its continued growth as a vibrant hub for Detroit’s community. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing pedestrian and vendor pathways, Shed 4 offers new functionality while drawing inspiration from the architectural language of the surrounding site. The proposed design is a modern take on classic architectural elements found in the market by reinventing the gable roofs, exposed structure, and masonry facades in a way that is both respectful of the market’s storied history and looks forward to the future of a contemporary, thriving marketplace. Over the past decade, KDG has partnered with Eastern Market on a range of initiatives, including the full rehabilitation of Shed 3 and the design of Shed 5, which introduced a community kitchen and rentable commercial spaces to support local food entrepreneurs. Shed 4 builds upon this foundation, with a goal of expanding access, enhancing user experience, and preserving the character of the market as a place for community connection. The expansion of Shed 4 will include two stories of indoor, year-round access, with a focus on the core of the market, the vendors, and developing small businesses. The first floor will be dedicated to market space, while the second floor will include added kitchen spaces for food businesses, cooking classes, event spaces, and meeting rooms. After more than 11 years in office and administration roles at KDG, Shayla Hall has stepped into the role as Project Coordinator for Intramode. Shayla works directly with the design team, coordinating with manufacturers, installers, and construction managers on project management and scheduling. She handles product implementation, client management, and the day-to-day procurement details that keep projects moving forward. It's exciting to see Shayla take on this expanded role after all these years with us! 🎉 We're happy to have someone with her attention to detail and dedication to keeping everything moving smoothly. Intramode is our wholly owned subsidiary that provides nationwide hospitality and contract procurement services, specializing in furniture, fixtures, and equipment for projects ranging from hotels, restaurants, and multi-family.

KDG partnered with the Detroit Historical Society Museum to design a dedicated Quiet Room that supports visitors with autism and sensory processing needs. This space was shaped through careful attention to lighting, texture, and acoustic control, creating a calm and flexible environment within an active public setting. Detroit’s Eastern Market Partnership is advancing a major redevelopment of Shed 4, transforming the historic structure into a modern, year-round facility. The $15-16 million project, with $4 million already raised, is designed to improve infrastructure, enhance vendor capacity, and support the market’s 2 million annual visitors. The renovation includes climate control and upgraded utilities to better serve both wholesale and retail functions. The City of Detroit is also working to rezone the surrounding area, enabling expanded food production, residential, and commercial development.
